A Friday night crash has sent a driver to the Jenkins County Jail
by way of the Jenkins County Medical Center. Roseman Modesto
Martinez-Velasquez of Millen was driving a Ford Crown Victoria
east on E. Winthrope Ave and .2 miles west of Old Sylvania Road
at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he failed to maintain the lane.
Velasquez over corrected and losing control, traveled an

striking a Comcast pedestal. The Crown Victoria came to a

investigators noticed Velasquez was extremely intoxicated at the
time of the crash.
A witness also stated that he observed the driver in the parking
lot of Quick Stop and he appeared intoxicated before entering
his vehicle. Velasquez was transported to the Medical Center

Pruitt Health’s
Bethany Home
Welcomes Back
a Familiar Face
By Hannah Derriso, Reporter
for

Tammy Royal first began her career at what was the privately owned Bethany Home, Pruitt Health
Retirement Home as a Nurse Manager in 1994, where she continued her role until 2010. While there,
Tammy completed the Administrator in Training (“AIT”) program and received her Administrator license in
2010. Shortly after receiving her license, Tammy accepted a job with a large Nursing Home Administration
Company overseeing nursing homes throughout the state of Georgia. Over the next several years Tammy’s
work ethic and dedication allowed her to quickly climb the ladder and move from Area Vice President to
Regional Vice President, and then finally Senior Vice President. After 13 years managing a large nursing
home administration company where she spent her time overseeing 16 different nursing homes throughout
the state, when she was offered the administrator job at Bethany, Tammy stated, “I prayed about it for about
three weeks and decided that it was time to come home.” She continued, “Many of the people who were
here back in 2010 are still here. It’s like a big family and the staff here is amazing to work with.” With her
previous years of experience at Bethany combined with her years of experience as Vice President for a large
Nursing Home Administration Company, Tammy has the skills and knowhow do great things and make
Bethany even better. Currently there are several programs in the works to make the living experience for
seniors, as well as the work environment for the employees, even better. “We’re trying to get volunteers back
in here now that covid restrictions are over. Folks to lead short activities with our residents, from Bingo and
exercise classes, manicures and pedicures, to painting or gardening, anything to put a smile on the resident’s
face and keep them engaged. We also have several events for the employees planned, just to show them how
much they are appreciated. I’m excited about the things to come and the community involvement, especially
with the weather warming up, getting outside, and the new faces joining our team.”
