OBITUARIES
Floyd Chester
Floyd Chester, 75, of
Cumming, died April 28,
2018.
Born and raised in
Dawsonville, Floyd had
been a resident of
Cumming for over 50
years. A family man,
hard worker, avid out-
doorsman and faithful
friend, he was known for
his humor, quick wit and
“smart mouth.” Floyd was
of Christian faith and
worked for over 30 years
with Larry Watson
Digging.
His mother, Hattie
“Punk” Kincaid, and son,
David Chester, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include his
previous wife, Brenda
Ramey of Dawsonville;
son, Jeffery Chester of
Dawsonville; brother,
Jimmy Kincaid of
Dawsonville; grand
daughter, Jessica Chester
of Cumming; great-
granddaughter, Penelope
Chester; sisters-in-law,
Dorothy Collins of
Cumming, Patricia
Collins Stephens of
Pickens, S.C.; and a num
ber of nieces, nephews
and other relatives also
survive.
The family received
friends at 1 p.m. April 30
at Bearden Funeral
Home. A memorial ser
vice followed at 3 p.m. in
the funeral home chapel
with Rev. Rual Martin
officiating. The family
met at 4:30 p.m. at
Sawnee View Memorial
Gardens for interment.
In lieu of flowers the
family requests donations
to help offset final
expenses.

Frank E. Manning
Frank E. Manning, 72,
of Dawsonville, died
April 26, 2018.
Born Jan. 19, 1946, Mr.
Manning had been a resi
dent of Dawsonville for
over 25 years. A loving
husband, father and
friend, he was a man of
God and a rock for his
family.
Frank retired from
General Motors after 30
years of service and
served as a deacon at
Trinity Baptist Church in
Dawsonville.
His wife, Sylvia
“Annette” Manning; son,
Jeffrey Scott Manning;
parents, Frank Manning
and Dimple Manning
Carter; sister, Patsy Kidd;
and brother, Hoyt
Manning, preceded him
in death.
Survivors include his
daughter and son-in-law,
Jennifer and Jon Spangler
of Braselton; daughter-in-
law, Debbie Manning of
Worton, Md.; grandchil
dren, Keith French, Ryan
Manning, Jack Manning,
Kristin French and Jensen
Brock, Katie French,
Skylar Spangler; brother,
David Manning of
Forsyth; sisters-in-law
and brothers-in-law,
Victoria and Steve
Brumbelow of
Dawsonville, Susan and
Joe Chadwick of
Snellville, Angela
Manning of Jonesboro;
various other relatives
also survive.
Funeral services were
held at 3 p.m. April 29 in
the Bearden Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev.
Scott Christopher and
Rev. Josh Mulkey offici
ating. Interment followed
in Trinity Baptist Church
Cemetery.
The family received
friends from 3 p.m. to 6
p.m. April 28 at the funer
al home.

Johan "John" Peulen
Johan “John” Peulen,
73, of Dawsonville, died
April 20, 2018.
Born on April 5, 1945,
he was a Dawson County
Resident for almost 10
years.
For many years he
worked as an engineer for
the brick industry where
he remodeled and mod
ernized brick plants. He
loved what he did and
was very good at it.
He traveled to many
places in the world and
enjoyed it for many years.
John was always car
ing, kind and very knowl
edgeable.
Being retired, he loved
volunteering at the RIC-
Rack for many years and
also volunteered at Christ
Fellowship Church.
John was the kind of
man, husband, dad and
grandpa who would do
anything for anyone to be
able to help.
He also loved to sit
down, tell stories and
have long conversations
with people.
He loved and cared
very much about his wife,
daughter and the cat,
Kikie, his son and grand
sons.
His father, Ludwig
Peulen, and mother, Ida
Peulen, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his
mother-in-law, Emmie
Jepp-Gruter; his wife,
Marina Peulen-Jepp of
Dawsonville; his daugh
ter, Natalie Peulen of
Dawsonville; his son,
Sven Peulen of Sugar
Hill; his two grandsons,
Aden and Hunter Peulen
of Sugar Hill; and his
brother, Ludwig Peulen
of Holland, Netherlands;
and many more cousins,
nephews, nieces and more
family members living in
Holland and Germany.
Memorial info will be
made available and will
be in private.
Donations will be
accepted to help with
family living expenses.

Early voting for primary underway

Early voting for the general prima
ry election began Monday and regis
tered Dawson County voters can cast
their early ballots until May 18.
Voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. Monday through Friday with
Saturday voting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
on May 12.
There is only one voting location
for advance voting and all in-person
voters must vote at the Dawson
County Board of Elections Office at
96 Academy Avenue in Dawsonville.
On Election Day, May 22, residents
must go to their assigned voting pre
cinct to vote between the hours of 7
a.m. and 7 p.m.
If you have questions about your
registration status, voting location or
wish to view a sample ballot you can
visit My Voter Page at www.mvp.
sosga.gov/MVP/mvp or call the elec
tions and registration office at (706)
344-3640.
In the primaries, voters will be able
to decide their party’s candidates for
seats at the county, state and federal
levels for the Nov. 6 election.
The following local races will be
contested in the primary:
• Republican candidate District 3
Board of Education: Incumbent
Karen Armstrong and Joe Stapp
• Republican candidate District 9
state Representative: Incumbent
Kevin Tanner and Mark Hajduk
• Democratic candidate District 9
U.S. Representative: Dave Cooper
and Josh McCall
Party candidates for state offices,
including governor and lieutenant
governor, will also be decided in the
primary.
• Republican candidate for
Governor: Casey Cagle, Eddie Hayes,
Hunter Hill, Brian Kemp, Clay
Tippins, Marc Urbach and Michael
Williams
• Democratic candidate for
Governor: Stacey Abrams and Stacey
Evans
• Republican candidate for

April 28,2018.

Ingram Funeral Home
Chapel. The family will

p.m. until the hour of ser
vice May 2.

Thomas "Tommy"
Holmes Powell
Thomas “Tommy”
Holmes Powell, 53, of
Dahlonega, died April 26,
2018.
Tommy was bom Sept.
18, 1964 in Mobile, Ala.
to the late Howard and
Peggy Powell.
A member of The
Lighthouse for Jesus
Church in Sugar Hill, he
loved to participate in
music and loved the
water. Although he had
nonverbal autism, he
would never meet a
stranger and loved to flirt
with the ladies. Tommy
loved to eat and his favor
ite meal was Ms. Vickie’s
chicken and dumplings.
Survivors include his
brother, Lee Powell and
his fiance, Karen
McClure of Conyers; sis
ter, Patty Treadwell of
Conyers; having been his
caregivers for the past 10
years, becoming known
as his second parents,
Grady and Vickie Teems
of Dahlonega; and many
other friends and rela
tives.
Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. May 3 in
the Bearden Funeral
Home Chapel. Rev.
Keith Blackwell will offi
ciate. Interment will fol
low in Sawnee View
Gardens.
The family will receive
friends from 5 p.m. until
8 p.m. Wednesday at the
funeral home.
