WAYCROSS, Ga. — Miss Lottie
Karowski and Mr. James F. O'Dowd,
both formerly of New York, were
married at St. Joseph’s Church, with
the Rev. Joseph G. Callaghan, S. M„
officiating at -the ceremony which
took place with a Nuptial Mass. Mr.
and Mrs. O'Dowd left for an exten
ded motor trip through Florida af-
“er a wedding breakfast at the Hotel
Ware. Since their return they are
residing in Waycross. Mr. O’Dowd
is manager of the Reliance Roofing
and Insulating Company, with head-
quatrers in Waycross.

WAYCROSS, Ga. — The Rev.
James E. King of Valdosta, officiat
ed at the marirage of Miss Ida Wy-
lene Brinson to Edward Martin
Heagarty, Jr., which took place here
at St. Joseph’s Church. Mrs. Heag
arty is the youngest daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. George Robert
Brinson, prominent pioneer citizens
of Waycross and Brunswick, and has
made her home in Waycross all her
life. She graduated from the Way-
cross High School and for the past
few years has held a responsible po
sition with the Georgia Power and
Light Company. Mr. Heagarty is the
only son of Mr. E. M. Heagarty and
fhe late Mrs. Margaret Heagarty of
this city, formerly of Savannah, a
well known family in this section.
He is a graduate of the Waycross
High School and the University of
Georgia, in Athens. He was for
merly connected with the Georgia
Public Utilities Company in Way-
cross, but is now associated with the
same company in Valdosta, where he
and his bride are making their home.
The couple went on a wedding trip
to New Orleans.

ier Church officiated at the marriage
of Miss Marie Margaret Brunegraff,
of Brunswick, to Frank Lewis Acos
ta, of Tampa, Fla. Mrs. Asocta is
the youngest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. H. Y. Brunegraff, and Mr.
Acosta is well known and popular
in Tampa, where he is associated
with the Bigley Electric Company.
Following the ceremony and recep
tion, Mr. and Mrs. Acosta left for
Tampa, where they are making their
home.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The marriage
ceremony of Miss Catherine Wald-
burg McKenzie, of Brunwwick,
daughter of Mrs. Mary McKenzie,
of Savannah, to Jack Louis North
rop, of New York, which took place
here, was performed by the Rev. Jo
seph G. Callaghan, S. M. Both Mr.
and Mrs. Northrop are well known
in the city, where they have made
their home for the past several
months. Mr. Northrop, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer W. Northrop,
of Tonedga, N. Y., is associated with
the Brunswick Pulp and Paper Co.

SAVANNAH. Ga.—The first confer
ence of the teachers in parochial
schools of the Diocese was held in
Savannah November 10th at the call
of the Very T James McNamara.
Diocesan Superintendent of Schools;
it was attended by the teachers of the
Savannah Catholic Schools; and the
Most Rev. Gerald P O’Hara, D. D.,
Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta, formally
opened it.
After the Bishop’s and Father Mc
Namara’s opening addresses, Sister
Stella Maris, R. S. M.. principal of
St. Vincent’s parish school, discussed
“Evaluation of the School Program”,
Sister Augustine, principal of Sacred
Heart School, spoke on ‘‘Essentials in
the School”. Brother Nicholas, F M.
S., principal of the Marist School for
Boys, discussed “Curriculum Build
ing” and Sister Mary Celestine, princi
pal of St. Benedict’s School, “Race
Relationships”.
The next conference will be held in
Macon December 13, for the teachers
of the schools of Macon; this confer
ence was postponed from an earlier
date because of the attendance of the
teachers at the Red Coss Institute
there.
HAITI has conferred the Grand
Cross of the Order of Honor and
Merit on Michael Francis Doyle of
Philadelphia for his services toward
international good will and peace,
particularly with reference to Haiti.
Mr. Doyle is vice-president of the
Catholic Association for International
Peace. The honor was conferred at
the Haitian Legation in Washington.
ATLANTA, Ga. — The marriage of
Miss Eileen Reardon and L. A. Jo
seph Morris took place at St. Anth
ony s Church. After the ceremony
breakfast was served at the home of
the bride for the immediate families
and close friends of the couple. Fol
lowing the reception in the after
noon, the couple left on their wed
ding trip.

ATLANTA, Ga. — The marriage of
Miss Mary Rebecca Barry and Ralph
L. Jansen took place at the Sacred
Heart Church here, with the Rev
Remegius Fleishell, of Washington,
D. C., cousin of the bride, officiating
at the ceremony, assisted by the Rev
Edward P. McGrath, S. M., of the
Sacred Heart Parish. The couple left
for a motor trip to Columbus, O.,
former home of the groom, and since
their return are residing in Atlanta.

Kennedy officiated at the marriage at
St. Mary's-On-The-Hill of Miss Agnes
Armstrong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John L. Armstrong, and Edward Hull
Rhodes, members of widely known
Augusta families. Mrs. Rhodes is a
graduate of Mt. St. Joseph’s and of the
Junior College; Mr. Rhodes is connect
ed with Babcock and Wilcox here. Af
ter the wedding trip they will live in
Augusta.

Miss Gertrude Reynolds and Russell
West Gregg of this city. Mr. Gregg is
formerly of Oklahoma City. Mr. and
Mrs. Gregg will live in Savannah.

ATLANTA. Ga.—The Rev. Edward
P. McGrath, S. M., officiated at the
marriage of Miss Irene Curtis, daugh
ter of Mrs. James Curtis and Wayne
B. McConnell, widely known residents
of Atlanta. After the wedding trip
to Florida, Mr. and Mrs McConnell
will live in Atlanta.

After the reception Mr. and Mrs.
Hammond left for a wedding trip.
They will live in Orlando. Mr. and
Mrs. Hammond are members of lead
ing Georgia and South Carolina fam
ilies. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. A K
Gwynn, V. F.. pastor of St. Mary’s
Church. Greenville, S. C., dean of the
Greenville district and uncle of the
groom, was to have officiated at the
marriage assisted by Father Dean,
but injuries to Monsignor Gwynn
sustained in an automobile accident

hospital in Greenville.

officiated at the marriage of Miss
Evelyn Lorraine Allen and Kenneth
Ganninger of St. Louis and Atlanta,
at Sacred Heart Church Mr. and
Mrs. Ganninger will live in Atlanta,
where Mr. Ganninger is connected
with the Kroger Company.

Cox, daughter of Mrs. Pauline Ben
nett Cox. and Stephen Eugeni: Gill,
were united in marriage at Sacied
Heart Church. Father McGrath of
ficiating. Both are members of well
known Atlanta families. Mr. Gill is
division manager of the Thew Shovel
Company in Atlanta.
MICHAEL J. HEALY. Kansas at
torney and a member of the Supreme
Board of the Knights of Columbus,
died late in October on a train on his
way to a K. of C- meeting in Du
buque. Mr. Healy, who was 46 years
old, had recently been appointed at
torney for the Interstate Commerce
Commission at Washington; he had
served as general counsel for the
Kansas State Public Utilities Com
mission.
MACON COUNCIL STAGES
FINE VAUDEVILLE SHOW

sisted by St. Joseph’s Dramatic Club,
presened six fine vaudeville acts at
St Joseph’s Hall-November 18; A. A.
Benedetto was chairman of the spe
cial coihmittee. Committee members October-
included Frank J. Callaghan, R. H.
Casson, Charles L. Adams, M. J.
Callaghan, Sr., Edward Lackay, J.
Corbin Jung and John J. McCreary.
POPE PIUS will be back at Castel-
gandolfo next summer again “if God
wills it”, he told the personnel at the
villa as he left for the Vatican late in
