National
President's Message
Dear Friends in Christ:
When thinking of the story of
Christmas I ponder over the role
of the Magi. Impressed upon my
mind is the great fortune of the
three kings from countries in the
East! who were led directly to the
stable where our Lord was to
hold court. The kings must have
found their, journey difficult, but
they were steadfast, undiscourag
ed by a jealous ruler, devious
paths or rugged traveling con
ditions. They bore gifts suitable
for a King. Though they found
this King reigning from a throne
of rough straw and attended by
shepherds, flocks of sheep and
other beasts of the stable, they
were taken aback. They present
ed Him with gifts of myrrh,
frankincense and gold, falling to
their knees to adore Him. These
royal gifts were received by Mary
with the same graciousness she
had extended to the more humble
gifts of the shepherds.
We must present our gifts to
the Christ Child in another man
ner. We cannot give Him precious
metals or fragrant perfume. But
Christ said , during His public
ministry that what we do for the
least of His brethren, we do for
Him. Our gifts to Him can be
given through our help. to men,
women and children throughout
the world in need of our charity
—persons who need food, cloth
ing. and shelter. They are many.
Through our Holy Father, vicar
of Christ - on-earth, we can present
gifts to Ghrist. Our gold sent to
the Storerooms of the Ploly Fa
ther will buy garments for child
ren in orphanages, for men in
grave need of clothes to wear to
work, for women poorly dressed
to withstand the winter cold.
