INCREASED ENROLLMENT FOR SECOND TERM
You Have
Decided Wisely
Middle Georgia College resumed
work Wednesday morning Dec. 30th
with a larger enrollment than before
the holidays. Several excellent stu
dents registered for the first time.
The office is now in correspondence
with several mor e who will enter at
an early date.
It is not'strange at all that when
times are financially depressed more
students are enrolled in schools and
colleges. That is the time to go.
Jobs are difficult to get and young
men and women can live at the av
erage State College cheaper or as
cheap as they are able to live at
home if all expenses are carefully
watched. When the depression is
over those who are prepased will get
better positions and will outstrip
their fellows. Do not let anyone
fool you. It is still and always will
be, the prepared man or woman who
Will eventually get and hold the most
important positions. This is just as
true of society as of finances, or re
ligion.
It is the man who feels his need
of better training and is sore be
cause he did not get it who stands
around the corner whittling and says
that education does not pay. He is
an enemy to his brother and not a
friend.
What shall we say of Georgia if
the State does not feel its need for
better education among the great
masses. Let all Georgians think
well before teachers salaries are cut
before roads are favored to the det-
triment of schools, before frolic and
fun is preferred to culture and re
finement.
I congratulate the fine student
body of Middle Georgia College up
on its wise choice. Go to college if
it takes a sacrifice.
Picture Programs
At M. G. C.
Each Monday night the school is
sponsoring moving pictures in the
school auditorium. Mr. Browning
has engaged a representative of the
R - C. A. Vitaphone Corporation to
show these pictures. V arious schools
throughout middle Georgia have
these picture programs each week
and now M. G. C. is following their
Pfen. The pictures will be the same
as those appearing in the theaters of
file larger cities, all are sound pie
ces; no silent pictuhes will be
shown.
Along with the regular feature
Picture, a Pathe News reel and an
attraction of about two reels
IVL G. C. Places Men
On AH State Team
Junior College select*cn of 1931,
In placing six men on the all state
the M. G. C. eleven had a majority
of the players, due to the fact that
the entire team displayed its super
iority by winning the Junior College
Championship. A great deal of
credit goes to these boys who have
earned places on this team as it was
only by hard work and their excel
lent ability to play football that this
honor was bestowed upon them. Be
sides placing six men on the first
team, M. G. C. also placed three men
on the second team.
Those making the first team for
M. G. C. were: “Lefty’’ Eubanks,
end, from Macon; “Red” Davis,
guard, from Darlington, S. C.; Cor
bet Williamson, guard, from Macon;
Elwood Barbre, tackle, from Macon;
Jack Slaton, quarter-back, from At
lanta; and James Linder, half-back,
from Dublin.
Those making the second team
were: Pete Harrell, tackle, from
Eastman; Burnis Parkerson, center,
from Eastman; and Clyde Penning
ton, from Eastman.

New Dormitory Now
Nearing Completion
The new 60 room brick dormitory
that has been under construction for
the last two months is now almost
complete. The roof has been put on,
the framing for the rooms is up, and
all the windows have been put in,
thus completing what is almost a
$25,000 hull.
As yet most of the inside of the
dormitory has not been finished, but
when it is completed it will have all
of the modern conveniences. Each
room will have one double deck bed,
one chiffonier, two chairs, one table,
two closets, running water, and will
be steam heated, Besides the 60
rooms for the students there will be
two apartments for teachers, a re
ception room, and two bath rooms.
This dormitory has been secured
for the students of Middle Georgia
College by its President, L. II.
Browning, who through careful man
agement of the financial affairs has
saved enough money to do this won
derful piece of work for the young
citizens of the surrounding country.
Until the present date there has
been absolutely no appropriation
made by the State to help in the
building of the new dormitory.
Mr. Browning hopes that the new
Board of Regents will give their au
thority to complete and furnish the
dormitory at an early date. The in
creased number of girls during this
year, and the lack of dormiotry
, Space for them shows that a new
dormitory for the girls is also need
ed.
Three Football
Players
T. I. Brown the big 200 pound
tackle played a great game of foot
ball against Norman Jr. College. T.
I. turned out to be a real wheel-
horse and stopped many opponent
plays. T. I. hails from Pineview and
never had much football experience
before coming to Middle Ga. but he
played the game as a veteran. T. I.
graduates this year from the Jr, Col
lege work and Middle Ga. loses an
other good man but some senior col
lege will have a great find in T, I.
Bill Rawlins came to Middle Ga.
from Eastman High where he played
two years of football. Bill did not
make the starting line-up but he was
as valuable reserve as on the squad.
Bill played several positions during
the year and always filled them well.
Bill has another year before gradu
ation and next season should find
him as starter.

MERCER DEFEATS M. G. C.
IN OPENER
Middle Georgia College lost the
first basket ball game of the season
to the Mercer “Ramblers” last Sat
urday night, Jan. 2. The score was
Mercer 42. M. G. C. 16. For the
first fifteen minutes of the game M.
G. C. held the score down and play- ■
ed fine ball, but just before the half
the Mercer forwards rang three
field goals and the score at the half
was Mercer 20, M G. C. 11.
In the last half Mercer outplayed
M. G. C. and scored 22 points to 5
for M. G. C. In this period Coach
Morris used ten men, but no halt
was made in the Mercer scoring.
For Mercer all the five men
used played fine ball, while Penning
ton was best for M. G. C. He was
high scorer for M. G. C.
M, G. C. will play Macon “Trav
elers” here Jan. 8th, Albany “Y” in
Albany Jan. 12. and G. M. C. in Ma
con 15, as a preliminary game to the
Celtics game in the Macon auditor
ium.

dle Ga. and although light and small
Zack was the best defensive man on
the field. Zack can certainly tackle.
Zack has three more years at Middle
Ga. and before his time is up he
should make a great athlete.
