BE it enaiied by the Senate and House of 1 Representatives of the United States of America, in Ctngrefs Assembled, Jhatifa ny person (hall falfely make, forge, or counterfeit, or Ulifc or procure to be falfely made, forged, or counterfeited, or willing ly aid or aflift, in falfely making, forging or counterfeiting, any gold or silver coins* which have been, or which hereafter (hall be coined at the mint of the United States, or who (hall falfely make, forge, or coun terfeit, or caufc, or procure to be falfely made, forged, or counterfeited, or willing ly aid or uffitt in falfely making, forging, or counterfeiting any foreign gold or silver coins* which law now are or hereafter (hall be, made current or be in aftual use & circulation as money within the U. States j or who (hall utter as true any falfe, forged, or counterfeited coins of gold or silver as a. forefaid, for the payment of money with in tention to defraud any person or persons, knowing the fame to be falfely made, for ged, or counterfeited; any such person so offending, (hall be deemed and adjudged guilty of felony, and being thereof convic ted according to the due course of law, (hall be fentciiccd to imprifonmtnt, and kept at hard labor for a period not less than three years, nor more than ten year*; or (hall b« imprisoned not exceeding five years* and fined not exceeding five thousand dollars. That if any person (hall import or bVing from any foreign place into the United States, any falfe, forged, or counterfeit gold or silver coins, which are by law made current or in aftual use and circulation as money within the United States, with the intent to utter, or make payment with the fame, knowing the fame to be falfely made, forged* or coun terfeited ; cr who shall utter as true, any such falfe, forged, or counterfeited coins of gold «r silver as aforefaid, (or the payment of money, with intention to defraud any perfoa or persons, knowing the fame to b« falfely made, fogged or counterfeited, the person so offending (Ita 11 be deemed guilty of felony, and being thereof convifted accor ding to the due course of law, (hall be sen tenced to irapriiomreni, and kept at hard labor fora period not less than two years, nor more than eight years; or (hall he im prisoned not exceeding two years, and fined not exceeding four thousand dollars.
