Among those who were loft in the (hip

excites singular commifcrarior. Both him

their coming out of the Cabin—being an
excellent fwimroer, Gen. M'Pheifon made
the quarter railling, but perceiving his
daughter ftruggiing in the Waves, and just
finking, lie plunged in.fo the sea after her,
seized her and brought her to the wreck ;
but was Wirnfelf walked off a feccnd time, and

IT would appear from the last fteral.l,
that our manner of poblifhing the Prcfuknt’s
meffige of the yth December left, has no:
been plcafing to the Editor of that peser!—
Hoa-aver, we are somewhat consoled, as
not one of ett: fubferibers has yrt complained,
thinking, probably, as we did, that Mr.
jHl>r(bo’s language was plain and intclligi
ble enough, without anv comments from
apnjlate IVh or eld Tones.
We have goodreafun to believe tbit we
should give every fitisfaftion to the Herald
Editor* and .iffuage his enmity and fplcen,
were we, mslicioufly and falfely, to call
in question the vievvs, and motive*, political
and moral principles of the Prcfident of the
United Stares, and join the tory pack in the
hue and cry against the majority of the re
presentatives of dispeople, applauding eve
ry man Sc measure, hoftiie to democratic in
dilution's ; but we are fully aware that at
the fame time wc should be deservedly
despised as traitors to the Country, and
impudent caluminators of those men, who

been touna to be about 5 miles north of where
the {urvcyor-gene.al of this state had fixed it
—ln jaftice to cur state officer it mini be
mentioned, from the information which wc
have received from Mr. Fain that his in
ftiufiions from the governor confined him
to be within, rather than to exceed the lat
