AUGUSTA, Nov. 29.
FIRE!
ON the. night of Wedncfday last between
the hours of 9 and 10 o’clock, a fire broke
out in a frame houfc occupied by Samuel
Wright, on the South fide of Broad-street,
near the market-'-how the fire originated
cannot be accounted for, as Wright was then
in bed and a flecp-—lt was with difficulty he
was fared, having his hair singed and neck
fcorchci. The flre'communicated in a (hort
time to the, hoafcs on both sides—to the weft
its progress was impeded by Mr. Bignon's
new brick hoafe, and the ere,.* and laudable
exertions displayed by the citizens on the
occasion ; but towards the market the de
vouring element made, its way irrefiftably
to the cross street, notwithstanding every
exertion tna Je to stop its progress, by means
of engines, &z. Twelve tenaments have
been reduced to ahes in about two hoars,
and as many families more or iefs greatly
injured or rained.
The bank bill introduced in the fenatc,
has been thrown ©at on the third reading—
thmneafnre will entitle our senators to the
thanks of die Newark. Jersey and other dil
tant bankers, whoTe paper circulates so ex
tcnfivcly in Georgia, to the n % final 1 loss of
the people.
