depart from the general custom of giving'
laborious details of the advantages result
ing from Neipspaper publications, mci of
making specious promises; the one being
already sufficiently understood, and tb*
other calculated to deceive. I offer neith

It may not he amiss to give to those tin
acquainted, a short sketch of the place
whence the paper is to be issued.
Montsomkht, formerly called Hostili.
Bluff, lately East Alabama and New Phi
ladelphia, (the fbrrtier established-by a
Company in Georgia, and the latter, by A.
Dexter, esq. both having been incorpora
ted into one town by the last legislature)
is situate inthe healthy, fertile, and thickly
settled county, of the same name, of which
it is the seat of justice—intended to p *r
petuate two distinguished martyrs* to the
cause of the republic, directly opposite
the eastern point of that highly cultivated,
extensive, and fertile tract of land, known
by the name of the “ Hig Beml* It ad
joins ,tlu fraction on which the tbwjl ol
Alabama stands, and bordering on the
celebrated river of (hat name, to which it
it is navigable at all seasons from the Gulf
of Mexico, for steam boats of a .large class
—distant about two hundred mijes from
Mi Hedgevi lie; a similar distance from the
sea ports of Mobile and Blakely; about 55
above Cahawba, the seat of government-,
and about 12 miles below the junction of
the Coosa, and Talapoosa. It is the poin
at which the Atlantic mails reach their
first stopping place in the stale, and from
whence News may be distributed through
the country with great facilities. Mont
gomery, from its high and airy situation,
the purity of its waters, flowing from its
several springs, anti the elevation of the
banks along the river on both sides, which
exclude stagnant waters, is considered pa
culiarly healthy; indeed, many resort to
that aection during the summer months,
on ttiat account: It contains many roman
tic, as well as level sites for building, and
for an infant establishment, it may be caH
ed a pdeasant, flourishing, town
