other subjects, aided by some literary
friends, will render it not altogether uu
acceptable to others.
I must, on this occasion, be permitted to
depart from the general custom of giving
laborious details of the advantages res ult
ing from Newspaper publications, and of
making specious prbmises; the one being
already sufficiently understood, and .he
other calculated to deceive 1 offer neith
er; merely remarking that its name pro
claims its principles, and that my humble
efforts will be freely exercised in endeav
ouring to promote the usefulness of the
paper and interests of the people.
It may not be amiss to give to those un
acquainted, a short sketch of the place
whence the paper is to be issued.

petuate two distinguished martyrs* to the
