had lost all confidence in D. C. McLauch
lin—the due bill above alluded to was
kept secret from us by H. Musgrove about
one month after the dissolution of D C.

The committee to whom was referred
the presentments of the Grand Junes of
Greert and Hancock counties, report
That whereas it is-the undoubted right
of tlie good people of this state, when
ever they shall think fit, to alter and
change the fundamental compact by which
they are associated ; and it has been re
presented to this legislature, that great
numbers of the citizens of the said state
are desirous of altering the Constitution
thereof. And whereas n *is tin duty of
the legislative body to give effect to tho
public will, when the same shall have been
correctly ascertained.
Be it therefore resolved by the Senate
and House of Representatives of the State
of Georgia in General Assembly met.
That it shall be the duty of the madistrales
who shall preside at the elections of mem
bers of the General Assembly, in the
several counties of the state, at the next
general election, to receive and register
the votes of the persons voting at the said
election, on the propriety of calling a
Convention for the purpose of revising
the Constitution of this stat. ; and to litis
end, the said magistrates are hereby re
quired, upon receiving the vole of each
and every individual, to enquire whether
it is the will of such voter, that a Conven
tion for the purpose aforesaid, shall be
called or not, and to record the answer to
such enquiry upon the ticket given in >y
such vo'er, by writing thereon according
to the truth of the fact, the word “ Con
vention,” which shall indicate the will
ot the voter, that a Convention shall be
called, or the words, “ No Convention, 1 *
which shall indicate the will of sue!, voter,
that such Convention shell not be called.
And be it further resolved. That it shall
be the duty of the (magistrates aloft-said,
to make a correct return of the vo. a so
taken as aforesaid, to the govern, r ot this
within thirty days after the said election,
to be by him submitted to the next Legis
lature, to the intent, that they may make
provision for calling a Convention, if a
majority of the citizens of this state shall
require the same to be done.
And be it furhter resolved, That His Ex
cellency the Governor be and he is hereby
requested to have the foregoing resolu
tions published.in the gazettes of this
slates lor llnee months d>dbre the next
general election, and pay fur the same out
of the contingent fund.
