From Mexico —We have seen a regula file of Havana papers to the 21st instant from which we collect, that the adjust ment concluded between Gen. O’Donuju the Vice-Roy lately arrived from Spain and Itiirbidirtlie imperal leader, had beei rejected by Gen. Novella, who had beci called to the vice-rsgal power by the arm) and inhabitants of the Mexican metropolis In consequence of this, hostilities had re commenced, and it was said that, in a bat tie fought in the beginning of September, the imperialists were defeated; with the loss of 3000 men and 10 pieces of artillery. Upon the whole, it would appear that a dreadful civil war was prevailing in that fair country, and that the exertions o) O’Dqnoju, and other friends of humanity, to put a stop to its dreadful ravages, had been fruitless, and of no avail English Language. —some years ago a gen tleman after carefully examining the folio edition of Johnson’s Dictionary formed the following table of English words derived from other languages:— -T.atin 6732 Irish 6 fc'rench 4812 Runic 4 Saxon 1665 Flemish 4 Greek 1148 Erse 4 Dutch 691 Syriac 3 Italian 211 Scotish 3 German 106 Irish and Erse 3 Welsh 95 Turkish 2 Danish 75 Irish and Scotish 1 Spanish 56 Portuguese 1 Isiandic 50 Persian 1 Swedish 34 Frisic 1 Gothic 31 Persic 1 Hebrew 16 Uncertain 1 Teutonic 15 - - Arabic 13 Total 15,784 A gentleman cF Baltimore has written an Opera, and presented it to the Mana gers Theatre for representation.
