Nothing farther ot importance has been brought before the Court—although we learn there is much business to be disposed of "fop'ufyucan, " THP - SESAMTJM OR HENNI I'LANT, J Recommended «s an article of cultivation 11 for its oil, There is a vegetable which promises, it encouraged and cultivated, great udvonta * ff es < n America—and which I would re commend to be cultivated for its ml. It is the Sesamum, anti has been long culti vated in various eastern countries, where ’ j its seeds are used for food and medicine— ] and from their farinaceous and oily nature, are alimentary and very nutrition*. A species of this plant has been u emit j S'dcrable time introduced and cultivated in several of the southern states, pnrticu. larly in Georgia, where it is called Dcnni, which is said to be the AtVipan name fop it, being much raised by the negroes, ihe seeds afford a large quantity of a mild bland oil, it is said frdpi two to thre e ■ gallons n bushel. They are so tender *>n ( t soft that the oil may be expressed without ‘ heat. It resembles in taste and qualitv the oil of olives, and is no doubt, (he best substitute for that oil, being fit fop most. ; it not all thp purposes of it, both in diet and medicine, Besides the various usee to which tha oil of olives is applied, the Sesamumor Benin ml, will answer well fop lamps and wool—for both of which purposes, lam disposed to vhiuk, li sufficient pa ns were ' taken to cultivate the plant, the oil would become an excellent and cheap substitute for others ccummonly employed. Although all oriental or southern olant» ' wdl not flourish or come to perfection in this latitude or climate, yet it has been found that some of them gradually accom . modate themselves to a more notlicrn one —and will, if reared in a w.oxn soil & situ, ation, ripen their seeds before our uu tumn'al frosts. SHiVDRACH RfCKETSON. Poughkeepsie, JV. Y. 9 ih mo. 1 Os A, 2821. Prom the Jiultiiixoro .Ymeripcin The natural Small Pox has now unhap. pily become epidemic among us Ido not know any part of our city which can ba 1 said to be peifeclly tree from this Conta gion, To continue longer therefore to point out every infected street or house particularly would be useless, 1 shah not ; on this account make any further search for infected places, nor trouble you 1 with any report concerning them. It is greatly to be lamented that so ma ny of these who were forme ly vaccinal, ed, and others who are at this time nnder this operation should suffer in any way from the small pox. The public mind however should not be impelled to ex tremes, nor be uselessly alarmed on this ac count. When rightly understood by them, i am satisfied these accidents will increase rather than diminish the confidence of every intelligent person in vaccination.— The kme pock must remain for ever the best and only remedy which mankind can ever be possessed of as an antidote for the Small Pox. Every case of small pox r which has yet occurred after the kme pock, has been invariably mitigated and modified by the pteviuus vaccination.— And no individual to my knowledge has ever yet died of the small pox after hay*, ing had the true kine pock. A general resort to vaccination would relieve us from this plague. Out if oiir citizens will continue careless about it and discourage or frown upon every at. tempt which can be made to extend the use of the kine pock among them, they must be con ent to submit to all ifie evil consequences of their own folly, nmil their sufferings will compel them to feel what it is to trifle &, find fault w tl> one off the best gifts of Providence to an ungivte ful world. Many of our citizens have now become unreasonably alarmed, and when tiny find themselves suddenly’exposed to the small . pox, they conclude at. once, that it is too late for them to submit themselves to be vaccinated, and on these occasions they either give themselves up to their fate or propose to resort for safety to the old in. nocuiation. Jiut these are great mistaken. Any family may remain exposed for seven days to the Small Pox, yet if they will suhmitto be vaccinated, without any fur ther loss of time, the individuals so ex posed will thereby escape and be secured, from this contaigSon. I do no stall* this as a mere matter of opinion, but as a fact on which the public may rely; for I have never yet failed to relieve front all danger, every family so situated, when called to them within the first week after tluur exposure to the Small Pox. I would by no means, however, wish to be umler derstcod to justify any such unreasonable -- delay, for if the kine pock should on any such occasion fail to take effect at the first, the next day might prove too late and usher in the most fatal conse*. cpieaccg; JAMES SMITH. ■■— wmamm x— temt* Notice. the first day of January next, will* *’ c h* r cd at the Mirket-Hoiise in the city of Augusta, all the Negroes belonp inf* to the estate of William U, Heal, dec’d.
