From the Salisbury (N. C.) Banner.
Ono of the many afflictions under which the people of the South have suffered
long and severely, has been imposed through the merciless agency of the great swarm
of traveling charlatans, quacks and emmissaries, of every type and profession, from
the North. It is not our purpose, at present, however, to point out the various
moans resorted to by this numerous olass of imposters, in the execution of tlicit
designs to gratify the basest cupidity by deception and fraud.' So numerous are the
instances of fraudulent impositions practiced upon the Southern people by Northern
swindlers, that they have come to the conclusion that nothing good can come front
that quarter; that every d tor hailing from Yankeedom, no matter what his real
merits, is of necessity a < ha I dan, a humbug, and they are afraid to trust him. But
wo aro glad to be able to aimounco the name of one who hat proved himself by his
works to bo an honored exception to the general rule, and therefore worthy of the
confidence of our people. Dr. Porter, a member of the New York Electrical Institute,
who has been practicing his profession as a physician in several places in this State,
and lastly in this city, has really astonished us by the success with wliich he lias met
in the treatment of diseases. We have carefully examined many certificates from his
patients in this State and elsewhere, sought and obtained the opinion of tho most
intelligent of those whom he has treated here, and we are satisfied that he is no
impostor, no humbug, hut a gentleman of intelligence and voracity, and a skillful
physician, llis patients speak of his successful treatment in the most oommendahls
terms, and rejoice in the great benefit they have received through his skill. Wo make
this statement for the doublo purpose of awarding real merit and commending the
Doctor to the sick and nfllictcd, whorever he may sojourn for (lie purpose of practicing
his profession, as a most reliable and efficient practioner. The rapid and favorable
effects of his remedies for tho various diseases are really wonderful.
From the Americus, Ga., Sumter Republican.
Db. Pout nit.—Wo take pleasure iu announcing to the citizens of Americus, the ar
rival of this skillful Physician in our city. The Dr. has taken a suit of rooms at the
Harlow House, where he can bo consulted at any hour during tho day, from now until
tho 13th inst. Ho comes with tho highest recommendations from cilixcns of Atlanta,
Athens, Augusta, and Macon, and other places, whom ho has effectually enred of
various diseases. Tho Dr. is a very pleasing and affahlo gentleman, and very candid.
If ho can cure, or licnefit you, ho will tell you so,; but if he cannot, ho will inform you.
You can roly implicitly upon his word ; if he pronounces your caso curable, you noed
not hesitate one moment to take his remedies.
From the Maeon, Ga., Telcejroph.
To Invalids.—Dr. Reuben Porter, who lias spent tliu last few weeks in our city,
wo loam from persons who arc disinterested, has made quite a success. Ilia patients
havo numbered hundreds. Wo have heard of no expressions of dissatisfaction from
thoso who havo been under his treatment. On the contrary, many Imve returned to
their homos, satisfied that they have experienced great ruliuf from suffering, and tliht
their cures will bo permanent.
