In response to a call of our delegates, a respcc* table number of citizens met at the City Hall to day at 12 o’clock. Upon motioo, lion. William Eztnrd was cal led to the Chair, who explained the object of the meeting to be, to instruct our delegates to adopt some plan, to reduce largely, the number of our State Legislators. T. F. Cooper, Esq., Col # T. C- Howard, Col. Gaulding.Col. B. C. Yancey and Col. John Collier, tn brief and patriotic speeches, advocated n reduction ol members— after which the following Resolutions, offered by Col. Collier, were adopted : lirsolved. That it is the sense of this meeting, that the number of members of the Legislature ought to be reduced at least two-thirds : that the Constitution of tbe State be so revised ss that the Legislature shall be confined in its ac tion to the legitimate objects of legislation, such pertain to tfie geueral interest and welfare of the whole people of tbe State ; that all class and case legislation be prohibited to the Legislature, and that power be given by law to the Courts to attend to all matters of local and private char acter, such as shall be fouud necessary to se cure tbe rights and interest of private corpora tions. and individuals.
