Ifcjr No ono who has ever had an/ experi
enca in ilie troubles and trials (to say nothing
of the bud debts) of publishing a newspaper,
will hardly fail to recognise the truth of the
following extract, which we take from a late
number of the Wtrrentoo (Va.) “Flag " Men
will plead poverty as au excuse for not sup-
portingtheir home papers, who squander away
in an hour twice the price of a year’s subscrip
tion and then cheat the printer by borrowing
their neighbor's paper. An habitual news
paper borrower is the very quintessence of
meanness:
“ Header, there is not an honest man any
vhere, (who baa health,) we care not hoi
poor he may be, who is not able to take aud
pay for a newspaper, and yet not miss the
Muiouut expended therefor. One half, yes,
lour fifths of you, absolutely throw away, iu
the three articles of liquor, cigars aud tobac
co alone, more than thrice that amount. We
s.iy this with no intention to cast reflections
upon any, but merely assert the fact lor the
sake of urgument, and to bring it plainly be
fore your minds. Just pauso for a moment
and think of it. Whioh Is intrinsically of
moot value to you ? The liquor you drink,
the cigars you smoke, the tobacco you chew,
or the paper you take in your family, which
gives you the news of the day, improves and
elevates the minds of your children, aud makes
them acquainted with the workings aud m*nu-
flte of the government under whieh they live ?
This question, surely, will not be found dif
ficult lor any person to unswtr.
l)ut there are those who would say, the pa
t>er is no account—there is nothing in it—it
is not interesting enough, nnd therefore not
worth the mo/icy. Of such w« would inquire,
whose fault \* this ? Do you lay the charge
to us 1 then we cast it hack upon you. It is
you who are responsible for the lack of inter
est in your county paper, not the editor—for
how cuu you expect him to furnish you with
such u paper as you would wish, when you
manifest no disposition to encottruge him in
any shape or form ? Can you expect him to
present you with a uicra readable sheet and
devote ail hit energies to the work, when duns
are coining in upon him and he is pressed
down by pecuniary embarrassment? And all,
too, because he is not supported us ho should
be by bis county people. What has he to
hope for or to stimulate him to the full and
earnesi discharge ot his various duties, when
nppeul after nppeal has been made iu vain ?
Sustain him tile rally aud pay him up promptly,
and so far as we are concerned, you shall have
a much Idler paper than we have up to this
time been able present you.”

Constipation or Costiveness.
No one of the “many ills flesh is heir to” is
so prevalent, so Hide understood, and so much
neglected as Coslivenres. Often originating in
carclrssuess, or sedentary habits, it is regarded
as a slight disorder of too little consequence to
excile anxiety, while iu reality it is t!,c pre
cursor and companion of many of the most
fatal and dangerous diseases, and. unless car y
< radicated, it will bring the sufferer to an un
timely grave Among the lighter evils of which
co»tivenes8 is the usual attendant, are Head
ache. Colic. Rheumatism, Foul Breath. Piles
and others ol like nature, while • Jong I rain of
frightful disviisee, such as Malignant Fivers,
A.bcepaes, Dy sent ary. Diarrhea*, Dyspeptia
Apoplexy, Epilepsy, Paralysis, Hysteria. Hy
pochondriasis. Melancholy and Ii sanity, 6rrt
indicate their pretence iu tha system by vVw
alarming symptom. Not unfrequentiy the dis
eases named originate in Constipation, but
toko on an independent existence, unless the
cause is eradicated in an early stage. From all
these considerations it follows that the disorder
should receive immediate attention whenever
il occur*, and no person should neglect to get
a b"X of Cephalic Pills on the first upfiearsnce
of the complaint, os their timely use will expel
the insiduuus approaches of disease and destroy
this dangerous foe to human life.
Gkkat Discovrrt.—Among the most impor
tant of all the great medical discoveries of this
age may bo considered the system ol vaccina-
ti u lor pi election Horn Small Pox, the Cepha
lic Pill for relief of Headache, and the use of
Quinine for the prevention of Fevers, cither
of which is a sure specific, whose benefits will
be experienced by suffering humanity long af
ter their discoverers are forgotten.
