Pennsy Iranis avenue in the afternoon, when a
large number teemed to havafhrrovd out on a
promenade, a fussy and fat little gentleman,
with a bundle under hie arm, free® wbnt parte
we can’t eaj, wae hurraing along aa if on an
errand of life and death, and joetUng aeery-
body in hie way.
Contra. Coming from aa opfoetto direc
tion wu teen a “Green Mountain boy H of
lowering proportione, but rather gaunt and
bony, twinging in hie hands, pendulum-like,
a glaced carpet bee, seemingly well stuffed
with something, what, the sequel will show.
Three ladiee walking up the street, and be
iog very expansive, prevented the twain from
feeing each other, and as they essayed to pass
the trio, and both on tbt tame aide, the fat
man and the “Green Mountain boy” met face
to faoe, coming up plump against one another;
and such a collision !
The fat man, upon the recoi’, rolled one
way and his bundle the other, end ee soon as
possibla gatherad up himself and his parcel,
und made himself scarce. But the tall man
staggered against a store door, dropped his
carpet beg, end, oh horrors! it Burst open,
spilHog the contents, oould it be believed, near
a peck ef cold potatoes over the pavement.
The yells of the lookers on may be imagiu-
ed; hot Yankae gathered np his potatoes, be
ing not at all willing to lose his dinner.—

Conitipation or Coitiveneia
No one of the “many ills flesh is heir to” is
so prevalent, so little undernlood, and so much
neglected as Costiveness. Often originating in
carelessness, or sedentary habits, it is regarded
as a slight disorder of too little consequence Ie
excite anxiety, while in reality it is the pre
cursor and companion of many of the most
fatal and dangerous diseases, end, unless early
eradicated, it will bring the sufferer to an un-
timely grave. Among the lighter evils of which
costiveness is the usual attendant, are Head
ache, Colic, Rheumatism, Foul Breath, Pile*
and others of like nature, while e long train of
frightful diseases, such as Malignant Fevers,
Abcesses, Dysentarj, Diarrhea, Dyspepsia
Apoplexy, Epilepsy, Paralysia, Hysteria, Hy
pochondriasis, Melancholy and Iisanit/, first
indicate their presence in th* system by this
alarming symptom. Not anfee^oenUy the dis
eases named originate in Constipation, but
take on an independent existence, unless the
cause is eradicated in afi early stage. From all
these considerations it follows that the disorder
should receive immediate attention whenever
it occurs, and no person should neglect to get
a box of Cephalic Fills on the first appearance
of the complaint, as their timely use will expel
the insidious approaches of disease and destroy
this dangerous fee to human life.
Great Discovert.—Among the most impor
tant of all the great medical discoveries of this
age may be considered the system of vicrins-
tmn for protection from Brosll Pox, the Cepha
lic Pill for relief of Headache, and tha use of
Quinine for the prevention of Fevers, eitbsr
of which is a sure specific, whose benefits wifi
be experienced by suffering humanity loa| «f-
tor their discoverers are forgotten.
