Tbe Administration ie new proceed ing to carry out the horrible threats of Helper ami bis indorsers. Tbe Republican party ia entirely abolitionized, and, if anything, we would prefer Garrison or Philips, as more hon est and more humane than Abraham Lincoln. Putting out of view the long years of agita tion and aggression provoked by Abolition- ism, and the existence of a sectional party that proclaimed its intention to disregard tba equality of the States as guaranteed by tho Constitution and (be determination of the Su preme Court, suppose the very worst possible case for the South. Suppose that tbe seven States which have resolved to secede did so without cause, that (heir discontent was groundless and their determination tbs dic tate of caprice. What then? Dues it belong to the theory of our Government to make war upon the^e discontented and disconnected peo ple, and by force of arms and superior num bers to scourge them back into bonds they loathe and detest 1 Such a course would be the bight of absurdity. #**#**# But is there no allowance to be made for discontent and dissatisfaction ? In such a case, none but a tyrant sends armies to butcher and destroy the population of a country that rises as the South Ua* done. Gtievances are ex- nmined, negotiations entered into nod a peace ful solution attempted. Commissioners were scut both to Presidents liuchanun and Lincoln from the Confederate States, and etforts made to avoid the dreadlul issue now accepted by the present administration. Wlial obligation is there that, any good citizen or true man should give encouragement to this unjust, un provoked ai * impious war ? The administra liou begun the war, and the Confederate Stales acting only in the defensive. It was nev er contemplated by tbe Const it nt ion that 8rates should be coerced. The requisition of State authorities is directly required to warrauL iho interference of tho Federal Government, and Mr. Lincoln, in overstepping tbe authority intrusted to him, and making war, especially ciril war, on those whom he regards as citi- zeus, has commuted high treason—and for similar conduct CbsrlcN i of England lost his head.—jY. SM&, Spirit of the Black Republican Press. It will be idle, criminal, treasonable, at suoh a juncture, [the anticipated confliot at Fort- Sumter] to talk about the rights and wrongs of Slavery in the territories, tbo exe cution of the Fugitive Slave Law, Personal Liberty Bills, and such abstractions, or as to which section was or was not aggrieved at the outset of the controversy. For ail »ucb wrongs, if real, there is constitutional remedy as open to our brethren of the South, as to ourselves, and to this they should have appealed. * * * * * * They have not doue so ; but, on tbe contrary, have preferred to vindicate themselves by menace, violence, plunder, and outrage upon the Government of every kind. —riiila. Inquirer. War News.—Our dispatches are full of war and rumors of war. Tbe administration gives the country to understand that its duty ia to defend the Constitution, and save the Govern' meut by all the means at its command, and that it intends to perform that duty, even at tbe hazard of using force to put down the trai tors. Let it do so, and it will receive the ap proval of all trne Union meu.—Illinois Jour nal, Lincoln's lloms Organ. Brownlow’s Knoxville Whig, of the 16th instant, after noticing the engagement and surrender of Sumter, and charging that the Confederacy desires war, cays : We say let them now have it to their hearts content! Let fleets land all round tbe ooast —let Flying Artillety and Regulars be landed in their piney woods, and let them have battle upon battle, here a fire and there a fire, and upon them and their wicked alliee rests the responsibilities of the consequences, whatever they may he. Wo take tbe following from the N. Y. Cour ier and Enquirer: “Fort Scmtbr Subrbmpsmrd ar a Tbai tor.—Sumter has fallen —surrendered wa fear, by a Traitor ; and that Traitor Major Robert Anderaon. This is harsh language ; but it ie tbe language of truth demanded by what ap pears to be the grosseet act of Treason ever perpetrated ia this or aay other country. The Treason of Twiggs is admitted by all, te have etceoded Benedict Arnold ; but the aawiea ef both Arnold and Twiggs, will sink into insig nificance, indeed, and almost rendered respec table, when compared with the more damning infamy which, from present appearances, must forever attach to that of Robert Anderaon.” The Courier further eaya : “God grant we mey not do him injustice; but as the facts now stand, we bold him to be the vilest traitor the world ever saw ; and such we doubt not, will he the judgment of the Court Martial that trie* bin.” For The GorKiiiNBMT oa Aoainst ft M !— “Tak© your places in like.” The Aa*rfo*n flag trails ia tbe duet.
