St. Louis, May 10.—Gen. Froot*a Brigade of
Missouri Militia surrendered unconditionally,
yesterday, to Capt. Lyon, of the Federal forces,
in thin city.
While the State foroea were drawn up be
tween two lines of the Federd troops, several
rooks were thrown and pistols discharged. One
bitting the leg of Capt. Bloutowsky, he ordered
the troops to fire, which they did—killing thir
ty, inoluding two women and sevnral children,
and wounding seven.
Immense excitement exists among the citi-
sens.
Two hundred men have been selected to pro
tect the newspaper offices of the “ Democrat ”
and “Auseiger ” from the fury of the oilmens.
May 11.—Gsn. Frost asks his friends tokesp
the city quiet, as disturbanesa would preju
dice the safety of the State troopa.
Gen. Harney haa arrived, and taken com
mand of the Federal forces.
Judge Buckner stabbed Dr. George Sander
son last night, probably fatally, about the Camp
Jackson affair.
The Federal forces now possess Camp Jack-
son and appurtenances. Volunteers cccupy
the Pacific and North Missouri Railway depots.
The police are preserving order amid much
excitement. Gen. Frost’s staff and State troops
are at the arsenal.

Washington. May 12.—Herds of beef cuttle
now occupy the grounds of the Smithsonian In
stitute.
Northern troops continue to arrive here in
numbers varying from one to three thousand per
day.

ton arc of foreign extraction. A regiment is
to-day quartered at Annapolis junction composed
of and officered entirely by Germans.
Gen. Scott Is not unaware of the military pow
er of the South. Yesterday he told one of his
friends that Virginia alone could, within forty-
eight hours, concentrate thrice as many troops
upon Washington, as are already enrolled and
mustered iuto the service of Lincoln's Adminis
tration.
Several regiments have left Washington with-
iu the last two or three days for the Relay
House. Their ultimate destination Is Harper’s
Ferry.
Jfr. Sanford, Agent of Adams Express Com
pany, arrived at Washington on Thursday, with
$700,000 in specie for the Government, from
New York, under the escort of fifty-two United
States cavalry.
The Cabinet have decided to sustain the Un
ionists in Virgiuia, Tennessee and ..Missouri with
prompt and efficient action.
Alexandria, May 11.—A large war steamer
haa just anchored off our wharves; her object
is unknown, and it ia too dark to ascertain
whether or not she has troops on board.
President Lincoln issued his proclamation
yesterday directing the commanders to allow
no one to exercise authority on Key Weal, Tor-
tugas and 8anta Rosa Islands, inconsistent
with the authority of the United States. He
also autborixes the suspension of the Habeas
Corpus act, and the removal oi all dangerous
or suspected persons frem the vicinity of the
forts.

stAntly arriving at Richmond.
The Confederate forces are actively engaged
fortifying at Harper’s Ferry.
A battery has been erected so as to command
the Point of Rocks, twelve miles below Har
per’s Ferry; while the bridge across the Poto
mac is co mm aad sd by another battery.
Scouting parties range the countiy for fifteen
miles North East and West; and, by a system
of signals agreed upon, they will communicate
with all important points upon the slightest
alarm.

Steam Gun Captured.
Naw-Yonx, May 12.—The steamship Groat
Eastern arrived off Sandy Hyok yesterday
evening, with three days later news from Liv
erpool. It is rumored that the Government
has charterad her as a transport.
The steam Gun presented by Mr. Winans of
Baltimore, to the Southern Confederacy, was
captured yesterday by the Federal forces at
Ellicott’a mills.

Montgomery, May IS.—It is probable that
Congress will adjoeru within the next ten
daya, to meet again in July at such place as
circumstances may rendar necessary.

Mobile, Mag 12.—J/r. W. H. Russell, tho cor
respondent of the London “Times,” visited
Forts Morgan and Gaines to-day, In company
with several prominent citiaens. Mr. Rusaell
made several important suggestions to General
Hardee regarding tho fortifications, gathered
from hU experience in the Crimea, and seemed
well pleased with Hardee’s command. He says
that Uardea is every inch a soldier.
