Scenes off Charleston Bar*
The British ship A. $ A , from Belfast
which was reported in our Iasi issue as having
anchored near ibe outer buoy of North Chau
nei, after having been chased by the Niagara,
escaped being boarded hy the man-of-war
oa Sunday night, and was successfully tow*
ed into port by the steamer (i or don yester
day morning. Tbe officers of tbe Niagara
supposed tbe A. $ A. to have been ashore
when she anchored, she was so close in, but in
this supposition they were mistaken, and the
ship has got into a port, where she will make
a most superior freight, say about l£d. for
Upland and l]d. for Sea Island Cotton.
The British ship Susan O. Owen* went to sea
yesterday for Liverpool, and it was rumored
that she was boarded by a boat from tbe Ni.
agara, and her papers strictly examined ; but
the pilot wbe took her to sea informs us that
he watched her closely after she got outside
until she had almost disappeared, and that no
such event look place. She was, when last
seen, going off finely, with all her canvass set.
So far at we can ascertain, no outward bound
vessel has ysl been stopped.
The Niagara was about ten miles Southeast
from tbe Ship Bar yesterday, and was there
visited during tbe afternoon by Robt. Bunch,
Eeq., Her Britaoio Majesty’s Consul at this
port, who left the city about *J. I'. M., in
the steamer Charleeton, and proceeded on board
the Niagara, where he was reoeived with the
usual salute and bad every courtesy extended
to him, nnd every matter in relution to the
blockade satisfactory explained. All neutral
vessels now in this port would be allowed a
reasonable time to depart, but nothing further
would be allowed to come in. The A. A.,
whioh got in yesterday, and whose manner of
getting into port rather disturbed the nerves
of some Cotton shippers, will be allowed to go
unmolested. AH open letters for masters of
foreign vessels expected here will be received
on board the Niagara and given to the par
ties when they come off the Bar, but no Beal
ed communications will be received. A fleet
of eight or ten sail, with Commodore Btriug-
ham, is expected off here shortly, when the
blockade will be rigidly enforced ail along the
coast. They expressed a willingness to have
supplied the Jhlja with water, but the Captain
sailed off in suoh haste that it could not be
done.
The cotnmauder of the Niagara was pained
at the position he had to occupy io reference
to the seceded States, but he intended to car
ry out his orders. Mr. Bunch says tbs A’ia-
gra t is a formidable looking ship, has a noble
crew of about six hundred men, is loaded-
down with provisions and war materia), deck*
piled up with shot and guns of (he mort for
midable site. The only Charleston ships or
dered off have been those reported ; say, tbe
Monmouth, Gen. ParkhUl and Jhlja, all from
Liverpool. The Eliza JJontuU, Sir Allan
MeNabb, Ac., have not yet been seen. Several
other British vessels have not yet been seen.
Several other British vessels hiave been order*
ed off, two of whioh it is said were bound to
Savannah, but their names ae did not learn.
No vessel* appeared off ibis harbor on Mon
day, so far aa we could see or learn, and the
Niagara bad a quiet day, but she keeps tlearn
oa all tbe time and moves rapidly when un
der way.—Charleston Courier.

’i'nere ere so many conflicting reports iu ref*
erence to mniters on tbe Western waters, that
we find it impossible to give a correct report
as to wbat is goiug on, and we only confine
ourselves to tacts t'at we know. A Blockade
has been reported here for a week, and still
the river news shows more steamers arrived.—
One thing is cerUia tbe city aiUbo^jlipsof Cin
cinnati have tried to Ihip gtejr merchants’
goods at their suggestion, and now ihe mob
whom they first led to this blockading business
won’t let ibetn, and the dealers there bitterly
complain that ruin stares them in tbe face, un
less their goods can go forward. The South is
almost their exclusive trade, and with empty
pockets but lots of goods, they see other cities
taking their trade away and are howling lus-
tilv. Glad of it.
Memphis tells Cincinnati that if she chooses
to send men or boats to her territory ip hostile
demonstration, she will retaliate by demoltftb
iog her city.
The West will take care of itself. We need
not trouble about the supplies. In fifteen days
more, we will not need another import from
the Lincoln land.
