A careful inspection shews that the projec tiles used by the Southerners at Acquis Creek were shot from the Norel cannon, evidently of European manufacture; hut how and when they got there is a question which perplexes all. The Clerks who lately refused to take the oath are all still retained ia the Treasury De partment. Col. Fornham is in commend of tbs Fire Zouavee. A Theological Student, just from Richmond, reports 180,000 troops in Virginia—20,000 of which are at Harper's Ferry It is believed that the Student was sent here to deceive the Government ss to the reliable Southern strength. Naw Yoax, June 5.—The steamship Austra lian, with Liverpool date*, via Queenstown, to the 20th ultimo, has arrived. The sales of Cotton for the week reached 80,- 000 bales, of which speculators took 19,000 and exporters 11,000 hales. Middlings had advan ced one eighth ; the lower qualities were on changed. The market closed with a large spec ulative inquiry. The sales on Friday were 10,000 bales—of which speculators and exporters took 3,000.— The market closed steady. Fair Orleans 8} ; middling, 72. Breadstuff* were dull and slightly lower.— Provisions steady. Consols unchanged. Money slightly lower. The bullion in the Bank of England had de creased £387,000. Chicago, June 3.—The Tribune of this morn ing urges the appointment of a Douglas Dem ocrat to the Senatorial recency. J. D. Pully, Representative to the State Leg islature, has been arrested by Col. Prentiss on a charge of treason. Caine, Juan 5.—The Southerners have five thousand men at Union City. Another regi ment arrived on Friday. They have ten thous- between Memphis and Cairo. Gen. Beauregard is expected to arrive at Un ion City on Saturday. lomsviLLa, June 5.—No orders have been received at the Post Office here* Southern let ters will he forwarded as heretofore. All letters received from the 8outh having Confademte stamps oa them will be delivered, the Poet- master hers collecting three cents additional on them. The Committee appointed hy the Maryland Legislature have reeently visited Richmond, to confer with the Confederate authorities. Marshal Kane is at heart as great a rebel as Merrimaa. He hoeets more; but they are afraid to arrest him. His friends threaten to riso if ho is touched.
