Make your Home Beautiful*
Make your home beautiful—bring to it flowers;
Plant them around you, to bud and to bloom,
Let them bring light to enliven your gloom.
Mske your own world—one that never has
sorrowed,
Of music, of sunshine, and gold summer air,
A home-world whose forehead care never has
furrowed,
And whose cheek of bright beauty shall ever
be fair.
Make your home beautiful—twine round it*
portal
Wreath* of the jessamine, delicate sprays
Of red-fruited woodbine, with joy immortal,
That blesses and brightens wherever it stays.
Varied verbena or sweet migoionette,
Still may bring bloom to your desolate bower,
Still may bo something to love and to pet.
Make your home beautiful—gather the roses
That hoard up the sunshine with exquisite art,
Perhaps they may pour as your darkness clo-
That soft summer sunshine down into your
heart.
If you can do so, oh! make it an Eden
Of beauty and glad nets—remember ’tis wise,
'Twill teach you to long for that home you are
needing,
That Heaven of beauty beyond the blue skies.
Call up your tittle ones: teach them to walk
Hand in hand with the wandering angel of
beauty,
Encourage their spirits with nature to talk.
Gather them 'round you, and let them be
learning
Lessons that drop from the delicate wings
Of the bird and the butterfly—ever returning,
To Him who has made all these beautiful
things.
Make home a hive where all beautiful feelings
Cluster like bees and their honey-dews bring ;
Make it a temple of holy revealing*,
And love its bright angel with “abadowiog
wings."
Then shall it be when afar on life’s billows,
Wherever your teropest-toss'd children ara
flung,
They will long for the shade ol the house
weeping willows,
And sing the sweet song which their mother
had sung.

A Mpartau Mother.
We have seen many letters written by ladies,
and many patriotic a*ntimcnl*and expression*
uttered by them, breathing a spirit of patri
otic devotion to ibeir country, that shed addi
tional lustre on the women of ’76; but a sen
timent uttered by a lady at our depot on Tues
day of last week, when the Americus Volun
teer Rifles were about to depart for the thea
tre of war, deserves to be preserved in litters
of Gold.
Just before her son—a beardless, slender,
delicate looking youth—stepped aboard the
care, she addreseed him in these words, pla
cing her hand upon bis shoulder: 44 Thomas,
1 thank my God that 1 have a son old enough
and brave enough to fight for his oountry.—
Go, my son, and prefer death to dishonor. If
that is lost life ie net worth preserving.—
Again I say go. Put your (rust in God ; do
your whole duty, and if you fall in battle, be
sure your face is towards the enemy. Witli a
ceaselsse prayer for your proteotion and safe
return, and a glorious triumph of our armo, I
bid you Farewell 1”—Sumter Republican, 2l«<
instant.
Ginokr.—The Charleston “Courier” says a
bottle of essence of Jamaica Ginger will be
found a pleasant and healthful companion to
the soldier’s oanteen, a corrective of bad wa
ter, a preventive of diseases arising from
change ef water, and in ail respect* better
than alooholio etimulanta. Think of thin
mothers, wive* and sisters, ih filling up the
outfit and farewell tokens for the deporting
volunteer!.
The Mobile “Advertiser & Register” of the
18th adds:
In thin oonneotion it oocura to ue to remark
that though the artiole named has heretofore
been fnrnisbed to enr market from Northern
localities, it is one in wkieb we are, or may
readily beoome, entirely independent cf the
North. Ginger to cultivated to some some ex
