This Regiment is commanded by Col. Georg* Doles, late Captain of the Raid win Blue*. Our business is to guard against a landing of th* enemy between Pig'* Point and Crane/ Island, and prevent a land attack cn Ports mouth and Norfolk It is a difficult landing, and 1 think they will task* no effort lo effect it unleu in a very extreme case. We ar* looking for them every night, these beautiful tnoonibiny night*. Should they com* I pro pheoy a superabundance of fish bait in Hamp ton Roads, for the next twelve month* to come. I look for peace before Christmas, al though I expect a great war apluiterby th* Pedersl Congress when it meet* in July. The North cannot stand thu tear ; and when the burden* of an onerous lax begin to bear down upon the people there, they will attest It. They nutt know that the re *stablishmeut of our lot* commercial relations would not fol low our subjugation. That is out of tb* que* tioo; our people will suffer martyrdom befor* tb*y will pay them voluntary tribute, and in voluntary tribute will ooit them more than tb* tribute will b* worth after they get it. Their blookade ia *o miscalled- it i* a kickade, do ing them vastly more injury than it does us. It outs them off from rice, and measurably from sugar, syrup and molasses. Their rev enue is fast falling off, inaugurating an inex orable necessity for a direct tax. The prioe of their great staples, meat, corn, hay, coal, live stock, is stoking lo a cypher. Their great commercial and meebanioal interests bav* takeo passage on Ihe telegraphic wires for “Stagnation Point.” Lst present causes continue to operate for twelve months longer, aod the pitiable condition of the North will be found aptly described in '* Milton's Par adis* Lost,” where be tells about the effect of Satan’s mistake, that be could better his con dition in heaven, when it fell upon him h sad, irredeemable reality, with all th* crushing fore* of God Almighty's power.
