Dr. D’Alvigtiy*s suggestion is a good one,
and if there oaQaot be a convenient bouve ob
tained for tbs purpose, let the oil issue take
them to their own houses. Perhaps it would
be better than to crowd them all together —
I will take two wounded soldiers to my own
house, and nurse them. They ehall have a
large comfortable room, and have all the at •
tentlon I oan give, and all the dieting and
oonvenionoeo the oity affords, gratis. No com
fort or luxury should be withheld from the
humblest of our wounded soldiers. Let us do
it nt once, and relieve Richmond or a part of
ber burden. It does not matter to which
Southern State the soldiers belong.
T. L. THOMAS.
Auecdote of MaJ. Wilson.
Iloto a chattel poked fun at the Federal pris-
oners.
The Riohmond correspondent of the Co
lumbui “ Titnee,” writing on the 2fllh ultimo,
saye :
I saw Bill Wilson, of Atlanta, who was
wounded at Manassas in the heel. He gave
us some amusing things of the fight, lie says
the oars would oome along to (he camps of
the wounded of our men aud lake them in.
One train in whioh he was to go, contained
a number of Federal prisoners.
An old negro who cooked, and was as blaok
as the aoe of spades, and had oue knee heut
away out and another hent in after it, stepped
up to the prisoners, aud, turning his eyes up
at them, said:
“Good mornin’ bosses ? Traveling? Gwine
to Virginny Springs to spend summer? Seern
to have mighty little baggage. Fine brace
lets you got ou 1 What dey coat you in dc
Norf? Bring any along to sell ? Better stop
at Richmond to see mass Jeff.' He'ii takeyou
in 1 Better spend de summer wid him. You’ll
like him ! We do.”
He annoyed them, they say, uutil they curs
ed him, and told him they would mark him.
“Yes,” says he, drawing hie hand around
hie neck, “ Davie will mark you this way.—
Well, good day, bosses, ain’t got time to talk
to you now, will come down to your banging.
I hope it won’t be rainin’, so you'll have a
good crowd.”
When they arrived at the depot, one of the
prisoners was in much finer spirits than the
others. He pulled off his hat and addressed
the crowd gathered :
“Citizens of Riohmond: We told you we
would be here by the foi/rth day of July, aud
as we were not very prompt, and a little he
hind lime, we are going to spend the balance
of the summer to make up for it.”
