A Card. Messrs. Editors: 1 learn that quite a num ber of your readera have attributed to me the authorship of tha patriotic letter of William E. Rogers, to hia father, which oppeared in the Daily Confederacy of 12th July, and after wards in the Weekly. I suppose that thia arises from the fact that Mr. Rogers waa a student in m j office at the time, and from ignorance of his character and capacities, I deaira to state that he Is the au thor of the letter. I did not write it, nor did I know that it wee written uutil my attention was called to it by the universal commenda tion of those who road it. Arrsit or an Kscapsd Gboboia Conner.— Tha Charleston Courier of yesterday says: OSoer Hicks yesterday arrested Wiley Morris, an escaped oonvict from the Georgia Peniten tiary, and for whom a reward had been offer ed. When arrested he had in his possession a horse, a fine looking animal, which ha bad stolen and rods upon tor several days past. He waa committed to await the requisition of the proper authorities in Georgia On Saturday night. Capt. Lovell, of the Berber Polios, waa twice chased to shore by five srmad Federal boats, containioc their fall complement ef men. Capt Lovell was ins small Cutter, proceeding to the Dry Dock, an chored ia the bay, whan hearing noises inside he tanned for the shore with five Federal launches ia hot pursuit of him. This waa re peated the second time, but no shots were fired from either aide. From 200 to 250 men must hava been in the launebea in all.
