OF LAND AND NEGROES.
IN conformity' to a decree of the Court of Equity,
will he sold on Tuesday, the 4th ot February
next, all that Plantation on Savannah river, con
taining fourteen hundred acres more or less, ad
joining lands of John Wosely, Silas Lanier, and
others, and lying immediately on the river below
the mouth of Stephens’ creek ; one third of which
isVleared and in good repair and in a fine slate for
immediate cultivation ; appurtenant to which is a
valuable fishery, at Bull S ice This tract will he
so'd entire, or in lots, to suit the convenience of
purchasers.
The above property is distant seven miles from
Hamburg. by the Martintown road, and has been
found to be as healthy as any in the countay. ;
Also, th ;t valuable Plantation on Stephens’creek
and the Martintown road, well known as the Key
place,containing about nine hundred acres.
Al-o, another tract of land, adjoining the above,
on the Martintown road, containing one hundred
acres, more or less.
Also, the plantation on Chavis’ creek,now in the
possession of Win. J Wightman, including the
homestead, containing about twelve hundred acres,
more or less, on which is an excellent Grist Mill
and Cotton Gin, all in good repair. All the above
lands are known and celebrated as being the finest
and most fertile Cotton and Grain lands in the Dis
trict.
Also, a tract of pine land on the head of Sweet
water, containing about five hundred and ninety
acres, more or less, adjoining lands of Reason Lan
ham and others.
Also about TWENTY VALUABLE NEGROES.
Also, Horses, Mules, Stock of Cattle, Hogs , Com ,
Fodder, Farming Utensils, fyc. Sfc.
The above sale will commence on the day above
mentioned, at the river plantation, and cont inue
from day to day until finished.
Terms of sale —The lands will be sold on a
credit of one and two y ears, with interest from day
of sale, and possession given immediately ; th* ne
groes for one-fouith cash, and the balance on a
credit unti the Ist day of January, 1841.
For all other property—sums under one hundred
dollars, cash. Sums over that amount, a credit of
welve months, without interest.
Resurvey plats of the land will be exhibited on

colored, no particular remarks recollected, has rath

now living in the neighborhood of this place. The
above reward will be paid to any person delivering
said girt to me, or giving such informal ion that 1
may get her.

TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS REWARD.
RANAWAY from the subscriber, in Monroe
co mty, Georgia, on ihe 27th day of October
la.'t, a Negro Man by tbe name of Joe, about 25
years of age, 5 feet 6 or 8 in hes high, yellow com
plexion, has a mole on Oie right side of his lace,
cheek bones hi_h, rather thin jawed, pleasant
countenance, quick spoken. When he left he wore
olFa wide brimmed white hat, a steel-mixed round
about. He earned off a set of carpenter’s bencli
planes, saw and hammer, a joint rule, and box
square. It is my opinion that he will attempt to
pass himself off as a free man, and that he wiiDtop
in some large place or cr.y, where he can hire him
self to work at the carpenter’s trade. 1 will give
the above reward for the delivery of said negro to
me, or to the keeper of some jail, and to be placed
therein, and information given to the subscriber,
living in Fort Valley, Houston county', Ga.

tfj I apprehensionand delivery to me of
a certain Negro man by the name of Bill, or Wil
liam as he is sometimes* called, at Society Hill,
Alabama, or safely lodged in any safe jaii in Geor
gia or South Carolina, so that I can get him. Said
negro is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches
high, quite black, spare made, quick in his move
ments, answers readily and quickly when spoken
to, speaks broken in his dialect, has some signs of
I the small pox. 1 know of no other marks, as I have
owned him but a short time previous to his elope
ment. He is fond of nvisic, and is remarkab e for
his expertness in keepin; time with it by means of
two small paddles or sticks, which he uses in one
hand between his fingers.
The above named negro left me in Baldwin coun
county, Ga.,in July, 182T 7 , and has been seen since
in the lower part of Jones county, and is probably
now lurking about Macon, Augusta, or Charleston,
S. (\ where he was raised.

The newspaper type < onsists of Nonpareil, Bre
vier, Burgeois,and Long Primer, in sufficient quan
tity to publish any paper in the southern States.—
The type is very good, and been but little used.
The Press is one of Smith’s patent, of Hoe’s
manufacture, and capable of printing an imperial
sneet—and warranted to be inferior to none in use.
The Job Type* in the office comprises almost ev
ery size from pica to twenty line pica, and exten
sive founts capable of doing any work which might
offer. The assortment was made at Bruce’s foun
dry in New \ ork, without regard to cost, and is as
complete as could be desired. There is a large as
sortment of Borders attached to the Job Office.
A large Imposing Stone; a great number of Cha
ses, large and small; a cast iron Roller Mould, Cyl
inders. Frame, &c.«, together with Stands, Cases
Sticks, Furniture, and every other article necessa
ry in an extensive printing establishment.
The terms are $1,300. One third cash; a third
on the Ist of July, 1840; and a third on the Ist of
January, 1841, with approved notes.
Any person wishing to purchase a Printing Office,
will scarcely ever meet with a more favorable
porlunity.

are first rate house servants.

ings in the yard; one of which is neatly finished,
havingevery necessary outbuildingconvenient, and
put up sufficiently commodious for a large family;
in the yard is as healthy and pure w*ater as can be
found in middle Georgia; a fine and well selected
orchard of fruit trees, having attached near one
hundred acres of land, now in cultivation and in
good repair. Also, the whole of his household
furniture, all of which is new and oi good patterns.
The whole of the above property will be sold on
the most accommodating terms.and in such quanti
ties as to suit the convenience of the purchasers.
Thej' would call the attention of those who wish
to merchandize at a place where thecusto ners of
the house of Thomas 11. White & < o, of twelve
years standing, art not surpassed for solvency by
any in Georgia, to such there is not a better stand
in the old counties —to the professional man here
is a place worthy a trial.

FROM the subscriber on the rjight of the Ist
instant, a n. gro man named Dick, formerly
-owned by George Patten of tbi* county. Dick is
a very light mulatto, about 25 years old, is well
dressed, has a good deal of assi irance,and may pos
sibly attempt to pass fora white man, or may have
spurious papers. He took ’with him his wife, a
nsgro woman belonging to Mr. Darling Johnson of
this county, about 19 years, old—she is black.
Dick was raised in the ’neighborhood of Charles
ton, S. C., by Mr. Bradw ell. His mother was re
cently owned by a Mrs. Jones of Coumbus, Ga.,
and now lives in Mobi' ie , Ala. She is also a mu
latto, by the name of Juliet. Dick has formerly
been a boat hand, and very likely may offer him
self as a hand on eitb er the Savannah, Gcmulgee or
Chattahoochee rivers , and endeavor to get his wife
in as a cook, or ma y be about Columbus, or with
his mother in Mob’Je.

tute in, are earnestly requested to furnish their
dauj jhters or waids with plain and substantial
clot hing, as ail extravagance in dress will be dis
countenanced by the teacheis and trustees.

nal ;y, for the accommodation of twenty or thirty

Road between Madison and the R?dge west of the
Alcovy river—a distance of 25 mSes.
1 his poj tion of the Hoad embraces some very
expensive work, including a Bridge, 50 feet in
heighth and 800 feet in length, across the A levy
river, to be built with stone piers and superstructure
of wood.
Plans and specifications of the work will be ex

Payments will be made either in bonds of the
Company, bearing legal interest, (B per cent,) or in
