IT HIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so long known, and used with such unparraUeled success ratL Canadas for the last 30 years, ap pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon toe human system is such that it invariably acts like a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to. This prize obtains its own name from the certain success which has attended it through its trying circumstances, namely, “five days, e same success whit h followed it in a Northern la i tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by M Cheveres, from the celebrated Indian Chief Warekothe, or Great Moon, whilst he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu siness in the North-west with the Indians.— Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable success throughout his two tribes. Its known and valued virtues hare already enriched to an almost incredible extent the children of this warlike prince, not only by actm.l sale of the article itself to in dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com position until he s eeps with his fathers,” although free to use it ir their respective tribes, which places it in the bunds of every Indian who rely with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura ble powers. Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can be anglisized of the deed given by W abenoshe, to M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe, and had twice ass isted the Chief himself through the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture. Few white men would credit the length of time which is consumed in preparing the article for im mediate use. I warrrnt by this publication,un der a penalty of $5,000, not to contain one parti cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata ble in its essence 5. Its first and prominent virtue is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for the subduction ol this loathsome malady —and ev ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in flation, are the only two things necessary to effect a sound and radicalcure. The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,” is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree - able consequences which almost invariably results from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humor alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the most loathsome, ]D€rplexing, and disagreeable dis eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and treatment of Gonorrhoea. Those affected are requested to call and try for themselves. If ;he prescriptions are well follow ed and fail to euro, the money will in every case be returned. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF TOMATO—a substitute for Calon\pl, and does not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made known to the faculty, or any one else that may wish to know, bv any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to be made from the stalk, a thing not more ansuiu than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for. the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they profess to be, and will do for otheis what they have done for such as mav have used them; as this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Y'ellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the other kind ; many wi] 1 recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they then wished for a substitute. It has long teen know a that the Tomato contained ca thartic principlts, but not until of late was it ascertained that they contained alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bcund to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in this city. We ail know something about this. The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s remedy for this distressing compaint is every day gaining is certainly a matter ofmuch astonishment, ’ That so much suffering should have existed for ages without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or | cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S. now assures the public that such a remedy has been invented as will convince the most credulous. The principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is ' an ai mined fact that this complaint, whet her called ! Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim arily from the stomach—those who think they have 1 the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that the sys ■ tern has become vitiated or debilitated, thiough the ■ stomach, and that only through the same channel ; must they expects restoration of jhe natural and healthy functions of the system. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca.,March 3d, 1838: Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, —By requestof your agent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effects of your pißs; and I would add, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience, as I and ray family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three years ; and so great are the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally the enemy of every disease. I will mention one case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grave. She was attended by the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but all their efforts to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pecting every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effects that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country r But this I presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding its general use, I never heard an individual complain of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward s of fifteen months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever and A^ue; and during the time could find nothing — though I had applied to every thing that gave me any thing like permanent relief. At length, how ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one of ouf best physicians, and I am most grateful and happy in being able to add. that I had scarcely used two boxes when I found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of ray family have used them with equal success— and consequently' I feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours, THEODORE JAMES. Augusta, Ga., Feb 10, 1839. Communication received from the eminent Dr. J. H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia; Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of the 11th inst., I was called in great haste to the house of a fellow ciiizen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found his son laboring under a most alarming attack of Cynanche Tracnealis (Croup) and apparently' be yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for tune, however, I had in my pocket a broken box of your pills—four of which I administered, with such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This case, in connection with my name is at your ser- I vice—and I have the pleasure to be able to inform you that your inestimable medicine is in such great favor with the faculty here, that I bebeve there is , not one of them who does not use it in his private practice. June 3 IhaSson’s SPECIFIC I pMiTMENT I THE great celebrity of this unrivalled Compo sition, especially in,the Northern States, leaves the proprietor but little need to say any thing in its favor: for it has been generally conceded to it, that it is beyond all comparison the best remedy for ex ternal complaints that has ever been discovered. Indeed thejspeed and certainty of its operations, have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wouuds, corns, fever sores.chilblains, white swellings, biles, piles, spider and snake bites, &c. &c-, immediately yield to its superhuman influence. Thus, it prop erly applied it will remove an inveterate corn or break and heal a bile in live days, will allay and perfectly cure an ulcer m two and the most desperate casesot white swelling that can be ima gined, have been destroyed by it in Jess than two months. In the bites of poisonous reptiles its effi cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its powers of attraction are so wonderful that they will at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from pervading ;he system. It is likewise greatly supe rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the chafed back and limbs of horses —lor tetters, ring worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every exter nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or beast. The proprietor has received nt least a thousand certificates, and other documents, in favor of his “ Specific Ointm nt,” upwards of a hundred of which were written by respectable members of the Medical Faculty. White Swellings, Scrcfma, Rheumatic Pains, Chapped Face, Lips and Hands: and for general external complaints. I write this at the request of your agent here, who furnishes me with the article, and am pleased to have it in nay power to award honor to merit. RUFUS R. BEACH, M. D. Brooklyn, N. Y., Oct. 29, 1838. Dear Sir—My daughter, a girl of fourteen, was sadly afflicted witn the comp aim that physicians termed a scald head ; and I feared, independent of ever} other evil, that she would be bald in conse quence. By the recommendation, however, of the Reverend Mr. Perrin, I applied your ointment to the afflicted part; and I thank God that my child is now entirely recovered from the disease, and is getting her hair as fast as can be expected. The cure was effected in rather less than two months; during which time I used fiv dollars worth of oint ment ; I had spent upwards of a hundred dollars duiing the previous three years, without any benefit whatever. MARY HOWARD. I hereby substantiate the truth ol the above statement. CHRISTOPHER HOWARD. 1 know the above statement to be coirect, and I can add from experience that “ Harrison’s Specific Ointment,” is an excellent medicine for external complaints. Matthew perrin. Boston, Jan. 7, 1837. Dear Sir—l have to request of you to forward me, two hundred boxes of Ointment, by the most immediate conveyance, and without regard to the expense of carriage, as lam quite out, and much in want of it.—You know my estimation of your valuable discovery, and therefore I shall only add, that further experience has increased ray enthusi asm and established me in the opinion, that it is su - perior to any remedy extant for external diseases. Respectfully yours, CHARLES P. EMERSON, M. D. New Orleans, Match 20th, 1838. Dr. Harrison. Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have been long known to me,as I have used none other in ray rather extensive practice tor several yearn, and if you think it would be to your advantage, I can furnish you with twenty certificates of important cures which it has effected under my own imme diate inspection: the last being one of a severe and apparently perpetual ulcer, in the back of a poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di vision street, which it completely healed in twenty onedays. My present chief object in writing to you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom lused to purchase it, having failed and gone out of busi ness,! am fearful if I purchase at random, that I may be imposed on by a counterfeit. Your obedient servant, EDWARD RAMSEY, M, D. Cincinnati, August 9,1837. Dr. Harrison. Sir,— l have no hesitation in stating, in reply to your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority of the ends for which vou re commend it. I qualify my certificate by the word majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in medical matters where I have had no experience. In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit lows, piles, &c.,it is ray universal recipe. I have also used it on the leg of a boy which had been bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison, and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to this day. Yours respectfully, HENRY JACOBS, M. D. Extract of a letter from Dr. J. W. This Cordial, however, to B the great advantage of the human race, soon proved itself to be the desideratum so long sought for; and accordingly, notwithstanding the brief perLd ofi ta existence, it has required a celebrity so great, that it is eagerly inquired for throughout the globe. Dr. Magnin soon finding that the dt-ruand was so vast as to render a supply impossible, dis. posed of the recipe and right ol sale, under oblige tions of secrecy, far England, the foiled States and other countries, only preserving f ranee and Italy for himself. Thus has the subscriber po s . sessed himself of the invaluable secret; and now hastens to give the inhabitants of his line c ( ageif^y the benefits of his speculation. “Le Cordial De Lucine, or, in English, “the I Lucira Cordial,” is a general in vigorator of the human frame! In all the various cases of languor, lassitude, and debilitation; it is an unfailing reme. dy ; as it i* equally its province to impart cheerful, ness and decision to ibe mind, as health and vig or to the body. But the peculiar virtue on which u 8 i celebrity is based, is the facility and certainty with r which it restores the virile powers when they hava ■ bet-n destroved by disease, lime, recklessness, orany . of the numerous causes which terminate in the prostration of those functions. In common with the generally of really good medicines, this Cordial contains nothing of a raer curial or deleterious nature, among the many ingre dients which compose it ; but is, at the same time, so simple, yet so efficacious, that while it can reno vate the prostrated energies of a giant, an infant may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad vantage. 1 The usages of society are unfortunately such, that, notwithstanding the benefits which would be sure to result from it, weeannotenter into an analy. sis of this inestimable Cordial here, or publish many of the documents which have been received, as vouchers of the blessings it has conferred on num b«rs of despairing individuals. But this wc cannot forbear remarking—that it has been demonstrated that there is scarcely ever, if any such thing at all, as natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of the procreant functions, in either sex; and therefore, that those evils are the effects of artificial causes, and may be speedily subdued and removed by the i use ot “ Le Cordial de Lucine.” 1 The Lucina Cordial is also an indubitable cure for the Gleet, and the Fluor Albus, obstructed, diffi. cult, or painful Menstruation ; also, for the incoa tinence ct Urine,or the involuntary discharge there ol. It is likewise an invaluable and unrivalled medicine in cases of Chronic Eruptions of theskin, and in the dropsical affections of the aged. Most important to the American Public. \ The United States proprietor of the celebrated “ Lucina Cordial,” or “ Elixir of Love,” begs to lay before the community, the following certificate, which he has received from the inventor, the illus trious Dr. Magnin. of Paris .* “ This is to certify, that I have disposed of the recipe for making the “Lucina Cordial,” or “ Elixir of Love,” and also the right to sell it throughout the I rated Slates of North America, to John Winters Holderwell,M. My reasons for so doing is, that the demands to me for the above Cordial, of which lam the inventor, are so nume rous, that I am unable to supply all the orders from France and Italy alone; and have therefore dispo sed of the privileges vouchsafed in this, and other certificates of a like nature in order to generalise the benefits of my discovery throughout the world. You will also find a number of others of less importance inclosed. This immediate cert.ficate is from a body of eight of the ablest medical practitioners in France. To Dr. Magnin, inventor of the Lucina Cordial, or Elixir of Love Respected and Honored Sir .*■—We have all in a variety of cases, tested the remarkable effects ol your great discovery, and have assembled lor the purpose of bearing evidence to the facts, and tend ering you the honor which is your due. The “Lucina Cordial” is in our opinion, an infallible remedy for the prostration of the Procreant r unc tions, and Artificial Barrenness : and therefor must prove a blessing to the human race. We ca. also bear evidence that there is nothing in it of a mer curial or deleterious nature ; and in short, the it is one of the noblest medicinal discoveries of any age. From the eminent Dr. Devigney, of Brussels. October 3, 1837. To Dr. Magnin: My dear friend—l am most gratified at the unprecedented popularity of your “Lucina Cordial,” and am able to bear testimony to its surprising virtue. I had a patient recently, 1 M 1 a gentleman ot fortune, who had for several years abandoned himself in the vortex ot dissipation; and was only reclaimed from it at length by the utter prostration of all his virile euer- Si*- He was, indeed, reduced to the last extremity of debility and tastelessness, for, if an occasional flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac tion was almost immediate, and the result pertect prostration. I had applied all the usual nostrums in such cases; but, as I had anticipated, without success; and when 1 saw the “Luc*ia Cordial” advertised, I must confess that even the great weight of your name did not give me much hope in it, at least so far as regarded the case in hand. I felt bound to try it, however, and was soon satisfied of its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of his system; and he is now, having used four bottles as wellu ever. ’ The number of documents, such as the above which have been received by Mr. Magnin, since tbe smss ar Luc ™-” M rkChar ' es B „ Tyler, No. 70 CheLnt-st’.
