Bacon —\V descriptions remain ext emely dull,
and we cannot learn that any sales art ‘fleeted,ex
cept very srqall lots for consumption These are
made at prices within the range of ot quotations,
but holders would readily accept a con iderabls re
duction if it would enable them to dis| ise of large
parcels. We quote canvassed hams a' 9 a 10c ; un
canvassed do Sa 9 ; sides 5a 7; shoul ers 4a 5.
Whiskey —The market has a good f'pply, with
only a modera’e demand, and prices |tave again
slightly given way. We now quote ;£ 34 a 35c
per gal for Cincinnati rectified. I
Exchange —There is an abundant sulply of sterl
ing bills, and the demand continues mo«leriite at for
mer rates —say 9$ a 10$ per cent prclnium. But
few transactions are taking place in Ixchange on
France, and the rates are now T 5.20 a 5.25. Bills
on N .York are in tolerably fair dema Id, but the
transactions are in smaller sums than fc imcrly, ow
ing to the scarcity of money and the Lffitulty of
making collections. The rates are the same, but a
preference seems to be given to bills a short sight.
Baltimore, F Ibruary 8.
Coffee —A lot of 3212 bags of Rio, car of brig W
Price, was offered at auction ti:is morni ig, and 2500
bags sold at 9$ a llsc. The bidding us not ani
mated, bot'the prices obtained were air for the
quality of the article. As is usually t! e case pre

transactions by private contract.
Cotton —Saies of good Georgia Uplai ,1s at 11 sc.
Corn —In the early part of the w -ak yellow

been confined to iloward-street flour, < which de
scription some thousand barrels were t ken for ex
port to Kurpoe, the West Indies, and c astwise.—
Large vessels suited for transporting fl ur to Eu
rope are scarce and wanted. There sc several
cargoes here waiting for vessels, and fie shillings
freight to Liverpool could be readily o tained A
vessel was taken this week at a higne rale than
that just named.
Howard-street Flour —We find the * »re and wa
gon price this morning the same as tl y were at
the close of the last week. Orders to >rne extent
were in the market in the early part o this week,
and several thousand barrels were take for export
to England, and rn Eastern account, at $5 50, with
occasional lets at $5 565. We are adv >ed of sales
this morning of about 1000 barrels ats 50,but the

We quote $5 s't as the prevailing store t ide to-daj ,
and $5 37$ as the price both from wag as and rail

A REAL BLESSING TO MOTHERS.
DR W. EVANS' CELEBRATED SOOTHING
SYRUP, for Children Cutting their Teeth. —This
infallible remedy has preserved hundreds of chil
dren, when thought past recovery, from convul
sions. As soon as the Syrup is rubbed on the
gums, the child will recover. The preparation is
so innocent, so efficacious and so pleasant, that no
child will refuse to let its gums be rubbed with ii.
When infants are at the age of four months, though
there is no appearance of teeth, one bottle of the
Syrup should be used on the gums, to open the
pores. Parents should never be without the Syrup
in the nursery where there are young children; for
if a child wakes in the night with pain in the gums,
the Syrup immediately gives ease, by opening the
pores and healing the gums ; thereby preventing
convulsions, fevers, &c. Sold only at Dr. Wm.
Evans' Medical Office, 100 Chatham street. New
York, where the Doctor maybe consulted on ail
diseases of children.
PROOF POSITIVE OF THE EFFICACY OF
Dr. EVANS' SOOTHING SYRUP.—To the Agent
of Dr. Evans' Soothing Syrup: Dear Sir —The
jreat benefit afforded to my suffering infant by
mur Soothing Syrup, in a case of protracted and
lainfui dentition, must convince every feeling pa
ent how essential an early' application of such an
ivaluable medicine is to relieve infant misery and
arture. My infant, when teething, experienced
inch acute sulterings, that it was attacked witli
convulsions, and my wife and family supposed that
death would soon release the babe from anguish,
ti’ I we procured a bottle of your Syrnp ; which as
soon as applied to the gums, a wonderful change
was produced, and after a few applications the
chdd displayed obvious relief, and by continuing in
its use, 1 am glad to inform you the child has com
pletely recovered, and no recurrence of that awful
complaint has since occurred; the teeth are ema
nating daily and the child enjoys perfect health.
I give you my cheerful permission to make this
acknowledgment public, andwill gladly give any
information on this c ire urns t; nee.

DR. JAYNE’S
OLEAGINOUS HAIR TONIC.
MR. BOND, one of the compositors in the office
of the Philadelphia Public Ledger, who had
lost nearly all his hair from off the top of his head,
has had it completely restored by the use of this
Tonic. Two officers of the Americaja Navy had
good heads of hair restored to them by using five
bottles each of this Hair Tonic, one of whom was
over sixty years of age. Four gentlemen connect
ed with the public press in Philadelphia, have also
had their baldness removed by using this remedy.
The Rev. Mr. Parker, Pastor of khe Presbyterian
Church in Delaware county, Pa., who was com
pletely bald over all the top of his head, and was
also becoming considerably gray, ha® used only two
bottles of this Tonic, and has not only a luxuriant
growth of new hair upon his head, but all the gray
hairs have disappeared, and their places have been
supplied by healthy hair, of a natural color. Fi
nally, nine cases of baldness o jt of every ten may
positively be temoved by a faithful application of
this valuable remedy. There is, therefore, now no
excuse for a bald head.
This valuable remedy for the growth, preserva
tion, and restoration of the Hair, can be obtained
wholesale and retail, from
