NOTICE.
IP is disagreeable to me to trouble the public
vvit.li my private matters, particularly as I am
not in the habit of writing newspaper squibs, but
I am at this time drawn out, in self defence, by the
advertisement over the signature of Charles L.
Mathews and Sherwood B Shohee, who have cau
tioned the public against trading for a note given to
me by them, as the consideration of the note has
failed to be complied with on my part I fully
complied with the requirements made by r Charles
L. Mathews, of me, at the time the note was given.
He made further requirements of me afterwards,
of which I would not comply with, for he was ful
ly cautioned of future results, by me, before we
made the trade for which I received his note; and
he took the trade on himself, at his own risk, in
the presence of Mr. Rufus K. Evans, a respeclaolc
gentleman of M icon, Ga., who I fortunately had to
go with me to hoar the representations made by me
to him. I wish it further understood, that he came
to me to make the trade, not mo to him. Seveial
other gentlemen applied to me for the same trade,
and I gave them the same information that I gave
C lurries L. Mathews. Though Mathews said that
he had read or studied law, and consequently was
acquainted with the laws of Georgia, and under
those considerations vve made the trade Now as
he has disclaimed trie payment of his note, I cau
tion him and all other persons against any intrusion
on the property for which the note was given, as
the law vvi 11 be strictly enforced against ail tres
passers. JOHN FINN,

ACADE3IY OF RICHMOND COUNTY.
fINHE Trustees of this institution are happy to
JL have it in their power to state, that botii the
principal Academy in Augusta, and the branch at
Summerville, have resumed their exercises, under
the management of Teachers who have the full
confidence of the Trustees, and who, they are sa
tisfied. are fully entitled to that of the public.
Mr. Ernenputsch, the Rector of the Academy,
already favorably known to the community, has
charge of the Classical department and all the
branches of education requisite for admission to :
our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar
and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi
nently qualify him for the discharge of the im
portant duties of his station.
Mr. Ring, the principal English Tear her, re
cently engaged by the Board, comes with the high- 1
est recommenda'ions as to character, talents, lite
rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the
Trustees feel assured that he will sustain the re
putation which led to his selection.
The branch of the Academy at Summerville is
under the immediate management of Mr. Frank
lin George, a gentleman of experience in teach
ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of
the location of this branch of the Academy in one
of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State,
and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in
fluence of a crowded town, are too well known to
need comment.
On the whole, the Board confidently recom mend
to the public the principal Academy and the Branch
at Summerville, as being on a better fooling than
they have heretofore been, and promising great
usefulness to those who may avail themselves of
the advantages which they offer.
A. CUNNINGHAM,
