This prize obtains its own name from the certain

not only by actual sale of the article itself to in

free to use it in their respective tribes, which
- places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura

Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
■ be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M.CheveretjWhen he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.

which is consumed in preparing the article for im

THE great celebriiyof this unrivalled Compo
sition, especially in the Northern States, leaves
the proprietor but little need to say any thing in its
favor: for it has been generally conceded to it, that
it is beyond all comparison the best remedy for ex
ternal complaints that has ever been discovered.
Indeed and certainty of its operations,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds,
corns, fever sore&,chilblains, white swellings, biles,
pules, spider and snake bites, <fec. &c., immediately
yield to its superhuman influence. Thus, if prop
erly applied it will remove an inveterate corn or
break and heal a bile in five uays, will allay and
perfectly cure an ulcer tn two weeks, and the most
desperate casesof white swelling that can be ima
gined, have been destroyed by it in less than two
months. In the bites of poisonous reptiles its effi
l cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in lime, its
powers of attraction are so wonderful that they will
at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from
pervading the system. It is likewise greatly supe
rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the

Dear Sir—My daughter, a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted witn the comp amt that physicians
termed a scald h'-ad ; and 1 feared, independent of

Reverend Mr. Fernn, J applied your ointment to the

now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her bait as fast as can be expected The

Dr. Harrison.
Sir —The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have
been long known to me,as 1 have used none other
in my rather extensive practice lor several years, and
if y«u think it would be to your advantage, I can
furnish you with twenty certificates of important
cures which it has effected under my own imme
diate inspection : the last being one of a severe
and apparently perpetual ulcer,in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
onedays. My present chief object in writing to
you, is io learn who is your authorised agent in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi
ness, 1 am fearful if ipurchaseat random, that I
may be imposed on by a counterfeit.
Your obedient servant,

Dr Harrison.
Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, in reply to
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority of the ends for which you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in
medical matters wfiere 1 have had no experience,
in sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit
lows, piles,<kc.,it is ray universal recipe. I have
also used it on the leg of a boy which had been
bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day
Yours respectfully,

* | HESE Pills are no longer among those of doubt-
JL ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced whereverit was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The cerliticates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicia
been the subject of editorial comment, in vafiou
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are.lhousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Biliious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Bick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, ilheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,!! abitu
al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, griping nor debilitv.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca.,March 3d, 1S38:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By requestof your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I wou Id
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience, as I and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great ai»e the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I w r ould rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
w'as brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect.ng every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ba»-
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward c of fifteen
months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing—
though I had applied to every thing that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they had restored me
to perlect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as 1 am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.
H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia;
Dr. J. P. Peters—My Dear Sir—On the night of
the 11th inst., I was called in great haste to the
house of a fellow' ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracnealis (Cronp) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills—four of which 1 administered, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case,in connection with my name is at your ser
vice —and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great
favor with the faculty here, that I believe there is
not one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. Yours most resp’y.

To Dr. Magnin:—My dear friend—l am rnos
gratified at the unprecedented popularity ol your
“Luc na Cordial,” and am able to wear testimony to
its surprising virtue. 1 had a patient recently,
1 M , a gentleman ot lortune, who had lor
several years abandoned hintsell in the vortex 01
dissipation; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the utter prostration of oil his vmieener
gies . He was, indeed, reduced to the last ext retnur
ot debility and tistelessness. for, it an occasional
flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost imnu dune, and the resuit perlect
prostration. 1 had applied ail the usual nostrum. 1 *
in such cases; but, as 1 had anticipated, without
success ; and when 1 saw the “ Lucina Cordial”
advertised, 1 must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope m it, at
least so far as regarded the case in hand. I felt
bound to try it, however, and was soon satisfied of
iisefficacy; for before a bottle was expended, mV
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
Ill’s system ; and he is now, having Used four bottle*,
as well is ever.
The number of documents, such as the above
which have been received bv Mr. Magnin, since the
