Its operation upon the human system is such that it invariably acts like a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.” This prize obtains its own name from the certain success which has attended it through al! of its trying circumstances, namely, “live days,” —the same success which followed it in a Northern lati tude still obtains in a more Southern, The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by >l. Cheveres, from the celebrated Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu siness in the North-west with the Indians. — Wabenorhe prized highly and use it with invariable success throughout his two tribes. Its known and valued virtues have already enriched to an almost incredible extent the children of this warlike prince, not only by actual sale of the article itself to in dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt at enormous prices to the thief of every tribe of Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the treat Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although free to use it in their respective tribes, which places it in the hands of every Indian who rely with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura ble powers. Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe, and had twice assisted the Chief himself through the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture. Few white men would credit the length of time which is consumed in preparing the article for im mediate use. Indeed the'speed and certainty of its operations, have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds, corns, fever sore&,chilblains, w hite swellings, biles, piles, spider and snake biles, &c. &c., immediately yield to its superhuman influence. My present chief object in writing to you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint ment, and the person Mr. Boyie, from w hom I used to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi ness, I am fearful it 1 purchase at random, that 1 imy be imposed on by a counterfeit. Your obedient servant, EDWARD RAMSEY, M. D. Cincinnati, August 9,1837. Dr Harrison. Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, m reply to your note, that your“ Specific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority of the ends for which you re commend it. 1 qualify ray certificate by the word majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in medical matters where I have had no experience, in sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit lows, piles, &c., it is m v universal recipe. I have also used it on the leg of a boy which had been bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison, and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was’ as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to this day Yours respectfully, HENRY” JACOBS, M. D. Extract of a letter from Dr. J. W. Sanders, of Louisville, Ivy October 8, 1837. “ lam prepared to say, that for Rheumatic Pains, and the Sore Breasts of females, Harrison’s Specific Ointment has no superior, if indeed it has any equal in the whole catalogue of external medic-foes, as known and prescribed in this country.” Extractof a letter from Dr. Potts, ot Utica, N.Y Dated July 28, 1839. ’’ “ Harrison’s Specific Ointment” is, m my opinion a most important diocovery ; and is particularly effi cient in scrofulas, ulcers, sore legs, and general outward complaints. I speak of its Merits from an experience of lour years.” New Orleans, January 4th 1837 This will certify that ray lace and neck were a! most entirely covered by an enormous ringworm ■ and that after the trial of a variety of ineffectual remedies, I was completely cured of it j n two months, by the use of Harrison’s Specific Oint ment.” EDGAR FOSSET For sale, wholesale and retail, by Haviland Ris ley & Co. They have passed away from the hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of experiment, and now stand before the public as high in reputation, and as extensively employed in all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering man. They have been introduced wherever it was found possible to carry them ; and there are but few towns that do not contain some remarkable evidences of their good effects. The certificates that have been presented to the pi opi ietor exceed twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of which are from regular practising physicians, who are the most competent judges of their merits. Often have the cures performed by tiiis inediciu been the subject of editorial comment, in variou newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be asserted, that no medicine of the kin i has ever re ceived testimonials of greater value th in are at tached to this. They are in general use as a family medicine and there are, thousands of families who declare they re never satisfied until they have a supply always on hand. They have no rival in curing and preventing I Biliious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver I Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma, • Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen, 1 Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, j Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach : and Rowels, IncipientDiarrhoea,Flatulence,HaDitu ! al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Rlotchedor Sallow j Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels, ; where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are j exceedingly mild in their operation, producing | neither nausea, griping nor debility, j The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca.,March 3d,1835: Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By requestor y'our agent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effects of your piDs; and I would add, that you may make use of them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my family have taken upwards of tliirtj' boxes in three years ; and so great arc the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur- I chase them al ten dollars a box than have my house j without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions | they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they | were many, and of very opposite natures, which | has fully proved to me that your medicine isasim | pie purilier of the system, and therefore equally j the enemy of every disease. I will mention one I case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe j riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and j was brought by it to the very verge of the grave. | She was attended by the most eminent physicians j that money could procure; but all their efforts to ! restore her to health, or even to mitigate her sulfer | ings were fruitless; and accordingly,we all consid i ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pect ng every day to be her last, your pills wore introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effeots that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months site was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet I could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which yourpills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country ? Rut this 1 presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding its general use, I never heard an individual complain of its elfects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward s of fifteen 1 months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever and Ague; and during the time could lind nothing— -1 i though I had applied to every thing that gave me I any thing like permanent relief. At length, how -1 ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one ! of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and I happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used i two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me | to perfect health. Since then, various members of i my family have used them with equal success — i and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you i of the fact, and to request of you to publish this j certificate, as I am anxious to add my public testi ; mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un . I rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours, THEODORE JAMES, j Augusta, Go., Feb 10,1839. i j Communication received from the eminent Dr. J. 1 H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia: I Dr. J. P.
