Radical Cure ol Hernia or Jiupture, by Dr. Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses. rgsllE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug | store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson Is Co., forthe treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these uslly celebrated instruments. He has now used them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid, he could name several persons who have been radi cally cured, of tills truly distressing and dangerous affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many others who are in a fairway of being entire!}* re lieved. The following is the language of the com mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by the ! committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearother trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee arc induced by the foregoing i conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The following is from the Southern Medical and ' Southern Journal, published in our own city. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best ! yet invented to effect the object.” Persons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under | this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous ly upon presenting a certificate, from ble person, of their pecuniary disability. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and docs not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made ( known to the faculty, or any one else that may | wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting h be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosutu than for one to other meal from the corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the [ Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they profess to he, and will do for otheis what they have done for such as mav have u?ed them ; as .his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless Le valuable information to families to know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the liapatine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the otlrer kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it aacertainer that .aey contatuea alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason tiiat they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of which a supply, wc learn, will soon be in his city. We all know something aoout this. ;ur.e ? Its operation upon the human system is such that it invariably acts like a chaitn, for the relief and radical cure of a certain common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.” Tl;i' prize obtains its own name from the certain sucres.- which has attended it through all of its trying circumstances, namely, “live days,” —the same success which followed it in a Northern lati tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated Indian Chief Wajekothe, or Great Moon, whilst he, with others was pursuing the lucrative i'ur bu siness in the North-west with the Indians. — Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable success throughout his two tribes. Its known and valued virtues have already enriched to an a : most incredible extent the clii.dien of this warlike prince, not only by actual sale of the article itself to in dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the Great Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although free to use it in their respective tribes, which places it in the hands of every Indian who rely with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura ble powers. Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to >l. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe, and had twice assisted the Chief himself through the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture. Few white men would credit the length of lime which is consumed in preparing the article for im mediate use. TRANSLATION. “I, Wabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowa and Chippewa, for the love and good feeling which I have for my white friend M. Sir —The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have been long known to me,as 1 tiave used none oilier iti my rather extensive practice lor several years, and if you think it vvouid be to your advantage, I can ! furnish you with twenry certificates of important cures which it has effected under my own imme diate inspection: the last being one of a severe and apparently perpetual ulcer, in the back of a, poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 2fb Di vision street, which it completely boated 1 a twenty one days. My present chief object in writing to you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in tins city, for, being in want of a supply ot your oint ment, and tHe person .Mr. Boyle, from whom 1 used to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi ness, I am fearful if Ipurchaseai random, tiiat I may be imposed on by a counterfeit. Your obedient servant, EDWARD RAMSEY, M. D. Cincinnati, August 9,1537. Dr Harrison. Sir, —I have no hesitation in stating, in reply to your note, that y our “ Specific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority ol the ends for which you re commend it. I qualify ray certificate by the word majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in medical matters vv net e I have had no experience. In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit lows, piles, Au-., it is ru universal recipe. I have also used it on the leg of a boy which had been bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison, and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to tiiis day Y'ours respectfully, HENRY' JACOBS. M. D. Extract of a letter from Dr. J. W. They have passed away from the hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of experiment, and now stand before the public as high in reputation, and as extensively employed in all parts of the United Stales, the Canadas, Texas Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine tha» has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering man. They have been introduced wherever it was found possible to carry them ; and there are but few towns that do not contain some remarkable evidences of their good cifecls. The certificates that have been presented to the propiietor exceed twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of which are from regular practising physicians, who are the most competent judges of their merits. Often have the cures performed by this mediciu been the subject of editorial comment, in variou newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at tached to this. They are in general use as a family medicine and there are f thousands of families who declare they re never satisfied until they have a supply always on hand. They have no rival in curing and preventing Billions Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver Complaints, hick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma, Dropsy, .Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen, Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach and Bowels, incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Habitu al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels, where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are exceedingly mild in their operation, producing neither niusea, griping nor debility. Thcfofiuwing was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca.,March 3d, 1838: Dr. Peters—DearSir, By requestof youragent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effects of your piFs; and I would add, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience, as I and 1113' | family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three j years ; and so great ax? the benefits we have receiv-. ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house I without them. I will not enumerate the afiiictions I they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure }-ou they ; were many, and of very opposite natures, which i has fully proved to me that your medicine isasim ; pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally | the enemy of every disease. I will mention one 1 case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grave. She was attended by the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but all their efforts to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless; and accordingly,we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable*. By good | fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pecting every day to be her last, 3’our pills were introduced into m3' famih', and so speed - and pal pable were their effects that three doses visibly re- I lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfect!}- restored to health. This case, 1 and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering part}-,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and 3'et 1 could mention many more of an equall3' desperate nature, in which yourpills were equal!}'successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts te enthusiasm in this section of the countr}' ? But this i presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose , of. i may mention, however, that notwithstanding its general use, I never heard an individual complain of its effects. To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward- of fifteen months, 1 liavc been cruelly afflicted with Fever and Ague; and do ring the time could tind nothing— though I had applied to every thing that gave me an}' thing like permanent relief. At length, how ever, your pills were recommended to me, b}- one of our best ph} sicians, and 1 am most grateful and happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of m3' famil}' have used them with equal success— and consequently 1 feel it my dut}'to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un rivalled medicine.
