j MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
PPHIIESE medicines are indebted for their name
1- to lh« ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying tlie spring and channels of life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun
dred certified cases whimi has been made public,
and in almost everj species of disease lo which
the human I'rama is liable, the happv effects of
MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND FHENIX BIT-;
TERS liavc been gratefully and publicly ac-
Innwlc-dged by the persons benefiiited, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beau 1 ilully
phih isopliioal principles upon which they are
compounled, and upon which they eonsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and descrip:ion. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coals ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon tantiy settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened Iseces which collect
convolusions of the smallest iniesiines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
■ such collected masses behind aslo produce habitu
al costivencss with cll its train ofevtls. or in a sud
den d.arrhcea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and hen re
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack medicines —or medicines prepared and her
alded to llte public hv ignorant p< rsons. 'J he se
cond effect of the Life Medicines ts ‘o cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity .of the urinary
organs. Thetdocd, w hich lakes its red color from
t! gency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heat, being thus purified by litem
and nourished by food coining from a clean stom
ach, courses freely thiough the veins, renews every
part of the sjstcm. and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming dheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-burn and Head
ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Costiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Aslhms.and Consump
tion, Scurvy, Ulcers, Inveterate Sores, Scorbutic
Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com
plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and oiher disagreeable
Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common
Colds and influenza and various other complaints
which afflict the huma?. frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
mosteminently successful; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that. Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, or any thmg that he himself may say
in their favor, that ha hopes to gain credit. It is
alone by the result of a fair trial.

incomparable and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
poareto need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable ‘-ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five day's,” —the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com
position until lie sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisizedof the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.
TRANSLATION.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to

V (JUS AND SICK HEAD aCIIE, has the satis
faction to make known, that he has a remedy which
by removing the causes cures effectually and perma

famines who have considered Sick Headache a con
stitutional incurable family complaint* Dr. S. as
sures them that ihey are mistaken, and labouring
under distress which moy might not only alleviate,
but actually eradicated by the use jf his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different chaiacler from advertised patent medi

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing corapaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
That so m tch suffering should have existed for ages
w ithout any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy* has been
invented as wii! convince the mostcrcdulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
an a. milled fact that this complaint, w hether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th > sys
tem has become vitiated or dehiJnated, thiough the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expect s restoration of jhe naiural and
healthy functions of the system. This object, Dr.
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner sutlercrs with the headache become
convinced of it, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. Spohn pledges his
professional reputation on this fact. Tne remedy

pervading the system. It is likewise great'y supe
rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the
chafed back and limbs of horses —for tetters, ring
worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every extei
nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or
beast.

you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this

r e iHESE Pills are no those of doubt-*
I. ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
hi-di in reputation, and as extensively employed in
alfparts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of sult'ciing
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences ot their good effects. Ihe ccitilicales
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live bundled ol
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicia
been the subject of editorial comment, in virion
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kinl has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thrn are at
tached to this. . .
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are, thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Billions Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, .Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cho.ic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Habitu
al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca.,March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the
almost miracn .ous effects of your pißs andl would
add, that you may make use ol tiiern, in connection
with my name in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years j and so great <u*e the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my r house
without them. I will not cnumeraie the alilictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. 1 will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a Jong pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the veiy verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we ail consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous -, and yet 1 could mention man}" more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
ware equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this 1 presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Raj
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, with sen
timents of regard, j our ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward* of fifteen
months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing —
though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best pity sicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as I am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. .Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of
the 11th inst., I was called in great haste To the
house of a fellow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where 1 found

Cynanche Tracuealis (Cronp) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills—four ol which 1 administered, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
my patient was at case, and out of danger. This
case,in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform
jou that your inestimable medicine is in such ir ieat
favor with the faculty here, that 1 believe there is
uot one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. Yours most resp’y.
