FIN HE Trustees of this institution are happy to
B have it in their power to state, that both the
principal Academy in Augusta, and Hie branch at
Summerville, have resumed their exercises, under
the management of Teachers who have the full
confidence of the Trustees, and who, they are sa
tisfied, arc fully entitled to that of the public.
Mr. Ern exputsch, the Rector of the Academy,
already favorably known to the community, has
charge of the Classical department and al. the
branches of education requisite for admission to
our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar
and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi
nently qualify him for the discharge of the im
portant duties of his station.
Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re
cently engaged by the Board, comes with the high
est recommends ions as to character, talents, lite
rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the
Trustees feel assured that he will sustain the re
putation which led to his selection.
The branch of the Academy at Summerville is
under the immediate management of Mr. Fhank
un George, a gentleman of experience in teach
ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of
the location of this branch of the Academy in one
of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State,
and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in
fluence of a crowded town, are too well known to
need comment.
On the whole, the Board confidently recommend
to the public the principal Academy and the Branch
at Summerville, as being on a better footing than
they have heretofore been, and promising great
usefulness to those who may avail themselves of
she advantages which they oiler.

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by far. 1
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses,

treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
j uslly celebrated instruments. He has now used
{ them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
j he could name several persons whohavebeen radi

'•affection, by Hie useol these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
i mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the j
■ Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ ihe instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
‘ committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the pit) less ion, as tiie best known means ot me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
i The fol.owiug is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chu-e’s Trusses are decidedly the best
ye|w vented to effect the object.”
« Arsons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus

this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous

The instruments are of ah sizes, and applicable

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
docs not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extren ,
North lias advertised a Tomato Pill, purportirg‘<
be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuui
than for one to oiler meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits ol
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are ail that they
profess to be, and will do for othets what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
his is a vegetable ol gicat use, and value, it will
ioubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
| as the lied 'Tomato, and produces twice as much
of Hie hapatine, or active principle, and when used
I as a daily vegetable will be found to keep Hie
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel lias been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of Tate was it
aicevtainej tnat ..sey coniarncu alterative and diu

the pieparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a

This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through al! of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “live days,”—the •

or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue

Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabcnoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
succe«s throughout his two tribes. Its known and

incredible extent the childien of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in

at enormous prices to the Chief of eveiy tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promi-e to the

position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura

Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabcnoshe, to

the proprietor Hut little need to say any thing in its
favor: for it has been generally conceded to it,that
ii is beyond all comparison the best remedy for ex
ternal complaints lhat has ever been discovered.
| Indeed and certainly of iis operations,
I have the appearance of miracles ; as ulcers, wounds,
; corns, fever sores, chilblains, white swellings, biles,
piles, spider and snake bites, &c. dtc., immediately
y ield to its superhuman influence. Thus, it prop
-1 erly applied u will remove an inveterate corn or
! break and heal a bile in Jive uays, will allay and
j perfectly < ore an ulcer in tivo weeks, and the most
desperate cases ol vv bite swelling that can be ima
gii cd. have been destroyed by it m less than two
months. Inihe hit.es of poisonous reptiles its effi
{ cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its
: powers of attraction are so wonderful that ihr y will
i at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from
l>erva nng the system. Ii is likewise greatly supe
rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the
chafed back and limbs of horses—for tellers, ring
worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every extei
. nai buddy evil that may fail lu the lot ot man or
; beast.

hundreds that are daily launched upon tiic tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was

few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who

j Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By request of your agent,
1 Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
| almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and 1 would
j add, that you may make use oJ them, in connection
| with my name, in any manner you deem proper, 1
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 am! my
: family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great ai-e the bcnelits we havereceiv
j ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
without thorn. I will not enumerate Iheuillictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
! has fully proved to rne that your medicine is a sim
ple punher of the system, and therefore equally
j the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
i riod sc erely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
j was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
| She was attended by the most eminent physicians
: that money could procure; but all their efforts to

ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable, by good
fortune, however, as she w r as in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored lo health. This case, 1 and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu

this section of the country ? but this J presume

to perfect health. Since then, various members of
