Mr. Ernenputsch, the Rector of the Academy, already favorably known to the community, has charge of the Classical department and all the branches of education requisite for admission to our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi nently qualify him for the discharge of the im portant duties of his station. Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re cently engaged by the Board, comes with the high est recommendations as to character, talents, lite rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the Trustees fee 1 assured that he will sustain the re putation which led to his selection. The branch of the Academy at Summerville is under the immediate management of Mr. Frank lin George, a gentleman of experience in teach ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of the location of this branch of the Academy in one of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State, and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in fluence of a crowded town, arc too well known to need comment. On the whole, the Board confidently recommend to the public the principal Academy and the Branch at Summerville, as being on a better footing than they have heretofore been, and promising great usefulness to those who may avail themselves of the advantages which they offer. Jn many hun dred certified cases which has been made public, and in almost every species ot disease to which the human frame is liable, the happv effects ol ; MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX BIT -1 TEILS have been gratefully and publicly ac l nowlcdged by the persons beneflitted, and who wa re previously unacquainted with the beau'ilnlly philosophical principles upon which they are compoun Jed, and upon which they consequently 1 act. The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves in diseases ol every form and description. Their first operation is to loosen from the coals ol the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities eon- tantiy settling around them ; ana to remove the hardened fasces which collect convolustons of the smallest intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitu al costiveness with ell its train ofevils. or in a sud den d.arrhoea, wilh its eminent dangers. This tact is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex amine the human bowels after death ; and heme the prejudice of those well informed men against i quack meilu ir.es—or medicines prepared and her | laded to the public bv ignorant p< rsons. 'J he se i rorul effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the ! kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the j liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which j entirely' depends upon the regularity’ of the urinary organs. The blocd, which lakes its red color from the agency of the liver and the lungs before it passes intollie hea t, being thus purified by them and nourished by food coining from a clean siom ach, courses freely thiongh the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation ot the Heart, Loss of Appetite, lleart-bnrn and Head ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor 1 and Melancholy, Uosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds. Jn fever and ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been most eminently successful; so much so that in the Fever and Ague districts. Physicians almost uni versally prescribe them. All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is to he particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly according to the directions. It is not by a news paper notice, or any thirg that he himself may say in their lavor, that be hopes to gain credit, it is alone by Ihe res til. of a lair trial. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by’ their use, that they are allthat they profess to be, and w r ill do for othcis what they have done for such as mav have used them ; as .his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Yellow' are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the hapaline, 01 active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the other kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they’ then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it ascertained that .aey contained alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is .Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day'. They have passed away from the ( hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of ' experiment, and now stand before the public as high m reputation, and as extensively employed in : all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas I Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that : has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering i man. They have been introduced wherever it was found possible to carry them ; and there are but 1 few towns that do not contain some remarkable evidences of their good eifects. The certificates that have been presented to the propiietor exceed twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of which are from regular practising physicians, wha arc the most competent judges of their merits. Often have the cures performed by this medicin been the subject of editorial comment, in virion newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be asserted, that no medicine of the kinl has ever re ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at tached to this. They are in general use as a family medicine and there are.thousands of families who declare they * re never satisfied until they have a supply always ; on hand. j They have no rival in curing and preventing I Biliious-Eevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver ■ Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma, i Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen, j Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, | Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Habitu al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels, where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are exceedingly mild in their operation, producing neither nausea, griping nor debiiitv. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca.,March 3d, 183 b!: Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By requestor your agent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the j almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and I would i add, that you may make use ol them,in connection , with my name, in any mariner you deem proper, I | speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my family have taken upwards ol thirty boxes in three years ; and so great a:-e the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house without them. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions they ha ve relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine isasirn ; pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally , the enemy of every disease. I will mention one : case. 1 have a sister who had been for a iong pe ; riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grate. She was attended by the most eminent physicians that money could procure •, but all their efforts to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pecting every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effects that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in loss than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu- I lardy of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in , this section of the country ? But this I presume i v r ou know from the immense quantity you dispose : of, 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding | its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain of its eifects.
