The Greatest of Human Benefactors
[Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,

a new and precious doctrine to the science of medi

by many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable

which may he as certainly, though not so quickly,

invaluably precious doctrine this, as it imparts an
important lesson to the apparently' healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an Unobserved inmate of their' 4 clayey houses”
[even while they imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
a? t of preserving health is to pluck out the disease
when in the blade, and not wait till the full grown

This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled

Wo the undersigned, practitioners of medicine

Is Sanative too valuable nut to bo generally

: Wc norebv sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often

fc.ie pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
[new medicine, we held him in the higncsi con

We now deem it our bounden duty (c\ en at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results ; and, as amends for our abuse of him, we
lo frankly confess to the world, that wc believe
liim a philanthropist, who does honor to the profes

The recent adoption of this medicine into some
d our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaianly
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
testimony, for wherever it is used it is it* own best

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
| *R. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
4 F TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to t ire family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty-, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, seme one in almost the extreme
North lias advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to
he made from the stalk, a thing not more ansuiu
than for one to oiler meal from tiie corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato j
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they arc all that they
profess to be, and will do for olhcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly- as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel lias been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertained that ,ney comameu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they- know- what it is YVorc it a patent mystery,
they w-ould be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, wc learn, will soon be in
his city. VY r e ali know somethingaoout this,

Radical Cure cl Henna or Rupture, by Dr.
Chasers Improved Surgeons* Trusses.
fl 1E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
j store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &, Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly- celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
lie could name several persons who have been Radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by' the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who arc in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every- case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually- ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; tiiais that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by- the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in cur own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure ol hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, ujHin application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given lo enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it j
is poured, by washing; hence ii is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
Also, Cologne, Lavender, Orange, Florida and
Rose Waters, in great varietv. For sale by

MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
f INHESE medicines are indebted for their name
, to thi ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying the spring and channels ot life, and enduing
i them w ith renewed tone and vigor. In many him
’ i dred certified cases which Ims been made public,
and in almost every species ot disease to which
the human train * is liable, the happy effects of
i MOFFAT'S LIFE PILLS AND PIIENIX HIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac
knowledged by the persons Ixmeiiirted, and who
! were previously unacquainted with the beautifully
( philosophical principles upon which they are
1 compoun led, and upon which they consequently
• act.
TheLll* E M EDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
1 first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
- crudities eon-tantiy settling around them ; and to
> remove the hardened faeces which collect t
. cor.voiusions of the smallest intestines. Other
t medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
I such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costivmess with ell its train ot evils, or inasud
i don diarrhoea, wit h its eminent dangers. This lact
is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
. amino the human bowels after death ; and home
the prejudice ot those well informed men against
• quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her
laticd to she public* l»v ignorant persons. 'J he ,sc
[ corid effect oi the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by tills means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blood, which takes its ml color from
the agency ol iho liver and the lungs before it.
passes into the heat, being thus purified by them
and nourished by (bud coming from a clean stom
ach, courses iredy tlnough the veins, renew s every
part of the system, and triumphanily mounts the
banneret health in tho blooming cheek.

most eminently successful; so much so i fiat in ihe
• Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
AU that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
, to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according (o the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, orany thing that ho himself may say
1 in their lavor, that he hopes to gain credit, it is
■ alone by the result of a fair ‘.rial.

fBVHIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
X long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric, its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its .
trying c cumstances, namely, “live days,”—the
same su jcss which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Chevercs, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
, incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com- 1
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although 1
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it m the hands of every Indian who rely ;
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers. ;
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M.ChcveretjWhen ho purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time i
which is consumed in preparing the article for im- .
mediate use. •
TRANSLATION.
“I, Wabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowaand
Chippewa, for the love and good feeling which I
have for my white friend M. Chcverct, (for he has '
done many good things for me and my people,) I
give to him my greatest cure for the bad sickness
which my children have had sent among them as
a punishment by the Great Spirit, and hope that in i
his hands it may do much good, and make him very ''
rich.” 1

I D to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
| ac ts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady —and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radicalcure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone lias been used to
aflect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humor
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions arc well follow
ed and fail to cure, the money will in every case he
returned.

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s

without any discovery of an effectual prevent ivof or
cure,is ttuly a subject of much regret hut Dr.'s,
now assures tiie public that such a n medy has been G
invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
an at mined fact that this- complaint, whet her called

arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that the sys

stomach, and that only through the same channel
