TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuin
than for one to offer meal from the com stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr, Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for othcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the bapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
bow they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
a>ccrtaineJ that .ney contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We all know somethmg aoout this.

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
rpHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
| store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &Co., fertile
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
44 The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearcthec
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
44 The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions-to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
44 All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from soraeresponsi’
Me person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

CHRONICLE & SENTINEL.
The Chronicle and Sentinel is devoted, to
Commerce, Politics,and General Intelligence.
Its location in the principal mart of the State, j
gives it decided advantages over tlie pppers of any |
other part of the State, in presenting the earliest
and most important commercial news. Reports of
the most important markets in the Union are copied
with great care, and a review of the Augusta mar
ket and the value of money, is made up with the
strictest accuracy for the tri-weekly and weekly
papers, which affords the Merchant, Planter and i
al! classes of society, the earliest and most impor
tant commercial intelligence.
In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren
cy, based upon specie—the re-charter of a National
Bank —the principles of State Rights—economy
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis
tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Genen 1 Government.
In miscellany and general intelligence, great
care is taken to render the paper both valuable and
interesting to all classes of society.
The proprietors will, as soon as their circulation
is sufficiently enlarged, (which they hope will be
in the course of t e present year,) increase the size

ACADEMY OF RICHMOND COUNTY
riIHE Trustees of this institution are happy to
ft have it in their power to state, that both the
principal Academy in Augusta, and the branch at
Summerville, have resumed their exercises, under
the management of Teachers who have the full
confidence of the Trustees, and who, they are sa
tisfied, are fully entitled to that of the public.
Mr. Ernenputsch, the Rector of the Academy,
already favorably known to the community, has
charge of the Classical department and all the
branches of education requisite for admission to
our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar
and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi
nently qualify him for the discharge oT the im
portant duties of his station.
Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re
cently engaged by the Board, comes with the high
est recommendations as to character, talents, lite
rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the
Trustees feel assured that he will sustain the re
putation which led to his selection.
The branch of the Academy at Summerville is
under the immediate management of Mr. Frank
lin George, a gentleman of experience in teach
ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of
the location of tiiis branch of the Academy in one
of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State,
and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in
fluence of a crowded town, are too well known to
need comment.
On the whole, the Board confidently recommend
to the public the principal Academy and the Branch
at Summerville, as being on a better footing than
they have heretofore been, and promising great
usefulness to those who may avail themselves of
the advantages which they offer.

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in

acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ol

MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICIN ES
fJ'tHESE medicines are indebted for their name
A to thi ir manifest and sensible action in puri

them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost ever) species of disease to which
I lie human frame is liable, the happy effects of
MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX HIT
TERS have been grolefully and publicly ac-
Inowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beau ilully
philosophical principles upon which they are
compounled, and upon which they consequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and descripiion. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon-tantly settling around them ; atm to
remove the hardened fajees which collect 1
couvolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveness with til its train ofevils. or in a sud
den d.arrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This tact
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and henae
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack meJirines—cr medicines prepared and her
laded to the public by ignorant pr rsons. Ihe se
cond effect of the Lite Medicines is lo cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, anti by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of llie urinary
organs. The blood, which takes its red color troni
llie agency cd the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heait, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely through the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Lossof Appetite, Heart-burn and Head
ache, Restlessness, lil-lemper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Costiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of ah kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma ami Consurnp
tion, Scurvy, Ulcers, Inveterate Bores, Scorbutic
Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com
plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable
Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common
Colds and influenza and various other complaints
which afflict the hll mar frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful ; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of Ins patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions, it is not by a news
paper notice, or any tiling that he himself may say
in their favor, that he hopes to gain credit. It is
alone by the result of a fair trial.

ANTi-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to curt in Five Days.
rBIIIIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 ycais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable 4i ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success liich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,” —the
same su cess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveves, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
VVabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by VVabenoshe, to
M. Cheverot, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.
TRANSLATION.
“I, VVabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowa and
Chippewa, for the love and good feeling which I
have for my white friend M. Chevcret, (for he has
done many good things for me and my people,) I
give to him my greatest cure for the bad sickness
which my children have had sent among them as
a punishment by the Great Spirit, and hope that in
his hands it may do much good, and make him very
rich.”

This Medicine,! warrrnt by this publication,un
der a penalty of $5,000, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata
ble in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue
is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereb)
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady —and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure
The mast peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree -
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known lo obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gpnorrhcea.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions are well follow
ed and fail to cure, the money will in every case be
returned.
You can do what you please and eat what you
please.
