S. BEERS & Co. rilllE article published below, concerning the J_ new and popular doctrine advanced by the illustrious Goelicke of Germany, cannot fail of ex tiling a deep and thrilling interest throughout our §§ 9 Q [Translated from the German.] LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE, of Germany, The Greatest of Human Benefactors Citizens of North and South America, To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany, [Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding a new and precious doctrine to the science of medi cine —a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed by many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable member,) he proves to be as well lounded in tiuth as any doctrine of Holy Writ —a doctrine, upon the verity of which are suspended the lives of millions of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op posers to refute, viz : Consumption is a disease al ways occasioned by' a disordered state of Vis Vito (or Life Principle) of the human body: (£/* often secretly lurking in the system for years before l be re is the least complaint of the Lungs <£3) —and which may be as certainly, though not so quickly, cured, as a common cold or a simple headache. An in valuably'precious doctrine this, as it imparts an important lesson to the apparently' healthy of both sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may be an unobserved inmate of their* 4 clay r cy houses even while they imagine themselves secure from its attacks, teaching them that the great secret inthe ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease wiien in the blade, and not wait till the J ull gr own ear. This Illustrious benefactor ot man is also entitled to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a world, for the invention ol his matchless Sanatice, —whose healing bat may justly claim loi it such a title, since it has so signally triumphal over our •neat common enemy, fj* Consumption, both in The lirst and last stages, —a medicine which has thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the MateriaMedica, and thereby proved itself the Qfj' Conqueror of Phy tic ians —a medicine, for which all mankind will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent Land of a kind Providence, a medicine whose wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pouitray ed even by snne of our clergy, in their pastoral visits to tee sick chamber; by which means they often become the happy instruments ol changing de sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad of friends into joy fulness QQ3 3 9 GOELICKE'S MATCHLESS SANATIVE, A medicine of more value to man than the vast mines of Austria, or even the united treasures of our globe, —a medicine, which is obtained equally from the vegatablc, animal and mineral kingdom;-, and thus possesses a tliree-Jold power, a medicine, wiiich, thougn designed as a remedy for consump tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence over many diseases of the human system,—a medi cine, which begins to be valued by physic ians, who are daily witnessing its astonishing cures of many whom they had resigned to the grasp ot the Insa tiable Grave. DOSE of the Sanative, for adults, one drop; for children, a half-drop; and lor infants, a quaitei drop; the directions explaining the niannei ol ta king a half or a quarter drop. Price—Three and one-third fix dollars ($2,00j p r half ounce. German coin value 75 cents. c] f? Q Q Q A certificate from three members of the Medical Profession in Germany, in Europe. We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine In Germany, are well aware that, by oui couise, we may forfeit the friendship of some of the facul ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall refrain from an expression ol our opinion, cither of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. Goehck’s new doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem hU Sanative too valuable not to be generally known—for what our eyes behold, and our eais bear, we must believe. We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Onen Goolick first came before the German public, as Hie pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a new medicine, we held him in the highest con tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be a base impostoi ai d the prince of quacks. But, on bearing so much said about the Sanative, against it 4 -il for it, we were induced, from motives of cuii •sit> to make trial ot its reputed values upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and we now deem it our boundon duty (even at the expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge Us eliicacv in curing not only consumption, hot other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore believed to be incurable. Our contempt toi the discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, we do frankly confess to the world, that we believe him a philanthropist, who does honor to the profes sion, and to our countiy, which gave him birth. The recent adoption of this medicine into some 0 our European hospitals,is ‘a sufficient guaian y Glut it performs all promises. It needed not our cs timuny, for wherever it is used it is its own best wi ness.' HERMAN ETMULLER,m. d, WALTER VAN GAULT, M. d. ADOLPHUS WERNER, m, d. Germany, December 10, 1886. t & tj tl The MATCHLESS SANATIVE.—By an article ln our paper to-day', it will be seen that this medi •uue has lost none of its virtues by crossing the At ‘Rotlc—for it appears to be working similar cures ‘o America to those which have astonished Europe. L. JEFFERS, 11. BOULWARE. Hamburg, June 24, 1840. wlm TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF FAMILIES. TAR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF § f TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and does not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made known to the faculty, or any one else that may wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuiu than for one to oiler meal from the com stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they profess to be, and will do for othcis what they have done for such as mav have u.«ed them ; as .his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used .as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the other kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it ascertained that .aey comameu alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls oi the day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of which a supply, wc leant, will soon be in Ins city. We all know something aoout this, une 5 Radical Cure ol Henna or Rupture, by Dr. Chase’s Improved Surgeous’ Trusses. riIHE subscriber has opened an ollice, atthe Drug § store of iMessrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., forths treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used them for nearly a year, and, did nut delicacy forbid, he could name several persons who have been radi cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many others who are in a fairway of being entirely re lieved. The following is the language of the com mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by the committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearolhec trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the conlidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The following is from the Southern Medical and Southern Journal, published in cur own city. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best yet invented to effect the object.” Pei sons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi" ble person, of their pecuniary disability. The Chronicle and Sentinel is devoted to Commerce, Politics, and General Intelligence. Its location in the principal mart of the State, gives it decided advantages over the papers of any other part of the State, in presenting the earliest and most important commercial news. Reports of the most important markets in the Union are copied with great care, and a review of the Augusta mar ket and the value of money, is made up with the strictest accuracy for the tri-weekly and weekly papers, which affords the Merchant, Planter and all classes of society, the earliest and most impor tant commercial intcl'igcnee. In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren cy, based upon specie—the re-charter of a National Bank —the principles of State Rights—economy reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the present administration of the Gener; 1 Government. In miscellany and general intelligence, great care is taken to render the paper both valuable and interesting to all classes of society. Mr. Ernenputsch, the Rector of the Academy, already favorably known to the community, has charge of the Classical department and al! the branches of education requisite for admission to our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi nently qualify him for the discharge of the im portant duties of his station. Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re cently engaged by the Board, conies with the high est recommendations as to character, talents, lite rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the Trustees feel assured that he will sustain the re putation which led to his selection. The branch of the Academy at Summerville is under the immediate management of Mr. Frank lin George, a gentleman of experience in teach ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of the location of this branch of the Academy in one of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State, and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in fluence of a crowded town, are too well known to need comment. On the whole, the Board confidently recommend to the public the principal Academy and the Branch at Summerville, as being on a better footing than they have heretofore been, and promising great usefulness to those who may avail themselves of the advantages which they offer. MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES PJ’MIESE medicines are indebted for their name A to Ihi ir manifest and sensible aclion in puri fying the spring and channels ol life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor. In mnnv hun dred certified eases which has been made public, and in almost every species of disease to which the human frame is liable, the happy effects of MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PH UNIX HIT TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac knowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who were previously unacquainted with the beauuluily philosophical principles upon which they are compounJed, and upon which they consequently act. '1 he Llh E MEDICINES recommend themselves in diseases ol every form and description. Their first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities eon lantly settling around them ; and to remove the hardened lieces which collect 1 comofusions of the smallest intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitu al costiventss with 111 its train of evils, or in a sud den d.nrrhtna, with its eminent dangers. This fact is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex amine the human bowels after death ; and hen re the prejudice ol those well informed men against quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. 'J he se cond effect of the J.ile Medicines is lo cleanse 1)10 kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, w hich takes its red color from the agency of the liver and the lungs before it pas>es into the boa t, being thus purified by them and nourished by food coining from a clean stom ach, courses Ireeiy thiough the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation ol the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-born and Head ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor and Melancholy, Costiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Consurap lion. In fever and ague, particularly, live Life Medicines have been mostem.ncnlly successful; so much so that in the Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni versally prescribe them. All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly according lo the directions. It is not by a new s paper notice, orany thi?g that he himself may say in their lavor, that ho hopes to gain credit. It is alone by the resuh of a fair trial. MOFFAT* MEDICAL MANUAL; designed as a domestic guide to health.—This little pamphlet edited by W. B. The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated Indian Chief Wajenothe, or Great Moon, whilst he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu siness in the North-west with the Indians. — Watcnoshe prized highly and use it with invariable success throughout his two tribes. Its known and valued virtues have already enriched to an almost incredible extent the children of tiiis warlike prince, not only by actual sale of the article itself to in dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of Indians in America, with a solemn promise to tiie Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although free to use it in their respective tribes, which places it 111 the hands of every Indian who rely with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura ble powers. Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to M. CheveretjWhen he purchased the original recipe, and had twice assisted the Chief himself through the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture. Few white men would credit the length of time which is consumed in preparing the article for im mediate use. TRANSLATION. “I, Wabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowaand Chippewa, for the love and good feeling which 1 have for my white friend M. Cheveret, (for he has done many good tilings for me and my people.) 1 give to him my greatest cure for the*6ad sickness which my children have had sent among them as a punishment by the Great Spirit, and hope that in his hands it may do much good, and make him very rich.” Signed WABINOSHEjhis X mark. This Medicine,! warrrut by this publication,un der a penalty of $5,000, not to contain one parti cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegala ble in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue is lo subdue every vestige of inflainalion, and then acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; thereby holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for the subduction of this loathsome malady—and ev ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in flation, are the only two things necessary to effect a sound and radical cure The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,” is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree - able consequences which almost invariably results from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and treatment of Gonorrhoea. Those affected are requested to call and try for themselves. If the prescriptions are well follow ed -and fail to cure, the money will in every case be returned. You can do what you please and eat what you please. To be had at Antony & Haines, No. 232, Broad • street, who are the only authorised Agents in Au gusta.
