An invaluably precious doctrine this, as it irwparts an , important lesson to the apparently healthy of both sc xes, teaching them that this insidious foe may bean unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses” even while they imagine themselves secure from its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease whcn i n the blade, and not wait till the full grown car. Wc, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine In Germany, are well aware that, by our coumc, we may forfeit the friendship of some ot the lacul ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall refrain from an expression of our opinion, cither of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. Goclick s new doctrine, we are happy to say' that we deem his Sanative too valuable not to be generally known—for what ouv eyes behold and our ears hear, we must believe. . Wc hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often Goelick first came before the German public, as the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a new medicine, we held him in the highest con tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be a base impostor ai d the prince of quacks. But, on hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it and for it, wc were induced, from moti\ e of faii •sity merely, to make trial of its reputed mitues upon a number oi our most hopeless patient-'; and we now deem it our bounden duty' (e\enal the expense of self-interest) publicly to acknow ledge its elficacy in curing not only consumption, but other fearful maladies, which we have hcretoioie believed to be incurable. Uur contempt foi the discoverer of this medicine was at ouco sw allow ed up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, wc do frankly' confess to the world, that we believe him a philanthropist, who docs honor to toe profes sion, and to our countiy, which gave him biilh. The recent adoption of this medicine into some o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty that it performs ail promises. The Chroxict.e and Sentinel is devoted to | Co.mmeuce, Politics, and General Intelligence, j Its location in the principal mart of the State, { gives it decided advantages over the papers of any j other part of the Stale, in presenting Hie earliest ' and most important commercial news. Reports of j the most important markets in the Union are copied ! with great care, and a review of the Augusta mar- ' ket and the value of money, is made up with the strictest accuracy for the tri-weekly and weekly i papers, which affords the Merchant, Planter and ; aI i classes of society, the earliest and most impor- ! tant commercial Intel igcnce. In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound currcn- 1 : cy, based upon specie—the re-charterof a National j Bank —the principles of State Rights—economy reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis tration : —and opposes the leading measures of the present administration of the Gcnen I Government. In miscellany an i general ii telligcnce, groat ; care is taken to render the paper both valuable and | interesting to all classes of society. The proprietors will, as soon as their circulation is sufficiently enlarged, (which Hicy hope wil! be 1 in the course of t c present year,) increase the size of their weekly sheet, when they will present then ; patrons with the largest and most valuable paper in the State.
