We nereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offcn

A Late and Valuable Discovery.
Perhaps t lore is nothing mo-° calculated to
disgust the public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our cars are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This stale
ul Ihe public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis

Kstdical Cure ol Hernia or Uupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
raMIE subset iher has opened au office, atlhc Drug
B store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson itUo., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments, ile has now used
them fur nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who leave been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee oi the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent a.ul accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by' those who wear other
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves, ’i he poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some
hie person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reduciblerupture.

DU. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may

for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx

which, he holds hunself bound, and in honor pledg

profess to be, and will do for othcis what they

doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces lw r ice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, ami
how they then wished for a substitute. It Iris
long been kiiovxu that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertained tnat .aey comamcu aiteiative and diu

ANTI-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days .
fJMHS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
-i- long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 years, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
: human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success Inch has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su jess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
| he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
| siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
; Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisizcd of the deed givvn by Wabenoshe, to
M. Chcverct. when lie purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few while men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

is to subdue every vestige of inhumation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; therebj
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady —and ev

assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone lias been used to

That so m ich suffering should have existed for ages

The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ol every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities con-tamly settling around them ; ana to
remove the hardened faeces which collect (
conversions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al cost ivencss with ill itstraiti ofevils. or in a sud
den diarrhcea, with its eminent dangers. This tact
is well known to ail regular anatomists, who cx
amine the human bowels after death ; and lienee

entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. 'The blood, w hich takes its red color from
the agency of 1 fie liver and the lungs before it

and nourished by food coming from a clean stom

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ot
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina

many other extracts and essences is almost as eva

they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an tn ertnite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
