LuUiS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Uffon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,
f Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
* new and precious doctrine to the s tence of medi
cine — a doctrine which,though vehemently opposed
uv many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
uosers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vitae
(or'Life Principle) of the human body: (jj=* often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of the Lungs 4^0 —and
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or a simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as jr -...pails an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves secure from
ts attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
ait of preferring health is to pluck out the disease
when in the blade, and not wail till the full grown
ear. .
Tiiis illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
—whose healing fiat may justly claim tor it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
irreat common enemy, fjf Consumption, both in
The first and last stages,—a medicine which has
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the Materia Aledica,
and thereby proved itse.f the fff Conqueror oj Phy
tic tans f" o—a medicine, tor which all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
' and of a kind Providence,—a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray
ed even by' sime of our clergy, in their pastoial
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instrumentsol caangingde
sponding into hope, sickness into hea.lt i, and sad
of friends into joy fulness
4 Q
GOELICKE'S MATCHLESS SANATIVE ,
A medicine of more value to man than the vast
mines of Austria, or even the united treasures of
our globe,—a medicine, which is obtained equally
froin s the vcgatahle, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three fold power,--n medicine,
which, thougn designed as a remedy lor consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system, a meci
cine, which begins to be valued by physicians, who
are dailv witnessing its astonishing cures Or many
whom they had resigned to the grasp of the Insa
tiable Grave. ! .

A rertificate from three members of the Medical
profession in Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners ot medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship ot some of the facul
o tv, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by seltish motives. Though we shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, cither
of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. Goelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem
lus Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known—for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe. .
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often
Goelick tirst came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor u d the prince of quae ks. but, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
an 1 for it, we were induced, from motives of cun
o*iir merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our bounden duty (even a e
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only consumption but
other fearful maladies, which we have hereiofoic
believed to be incurable. Our contempt foi the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results - and, as amends for our abuse of him, we
d 0 fmnkly confess to the world, that we believe |
him a philanthropist, who docs honor to die profes
skn, and to our countiy, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimony, for wherever it is used itus its own best

Radical Cure ol Henna or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
ri’UlK subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
I store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson Si Co., forthe
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
uslly celebrated instruments. He has now' used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
lie could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
alfcction, by the useol these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those wiio wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit, of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to elfect the object.”
Personsfiom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the oihee, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this alllicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous

The instruments arc of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety ol reducible rupture.

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and

for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx

North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purpoiticg u

than for one to otter meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits ol
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for othcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
vloubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
a?certainc j that .uey coniarueu aileiative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato

CIMa JOURS,

ANTi-BALSAMiC GONORRHtEAL SOLUTION,
'Warranted to cure in Five Days.
r | HIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably' acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success liich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuingthe lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
\\ abenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost,
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by' actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian xvho rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s

That so m ich suffering should have existed forages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure,is truly a subject ol much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most, credulous. The
principles on w inch it acts are simple and plain. It is
an a milted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is ihe first cause, that th° sys

MOFFAT'S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
f IMIESF. medicines are indebted for their name
A to lh. ir manifest and sensible action in puri

them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun

MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX BIT
TERS have been groiefully and publicly ac-
Inowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beamihilly
philosophical principles upon which they are
compounled, and upon which they subsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and descripiion. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon lamly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened faeces which collect 1
convolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveiu ss with 111 its train oi evils, or in a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is vyell known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and heme
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack meilinnes—or medicines prepared and her
ladcd to the public hv ignorant p< rsons. Ihe se
cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends m>on the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blood, w hich takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the hea t, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely ih.ougb the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner ot health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign

which afflict the humar frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful; so much so that in the

All lhai Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
fI’vHES.2 Pills are no longer among those of
JL doubtful utility. They have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand before the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all pans of the United States, the Can
adas, Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
medicine that has ever been prepa ed lor the reliel
of suffering man. 'J hey have been intioduced
wherever it was found poss ble to carry them; and
there are but few towns that do not contain some
remarkable evidences of their good effects. The
cerlificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred of w Inch are from regular praclit ing physicians,
who are the most competent judg< s of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in vatious
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heme of the kind has ever
received testimonials of greater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, trick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Files,.Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Fur
red Tongue Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoe, Flatulence, Habit
ual Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or
Sallow Coraniexun, and in all cases of Torpor of
the Bowels, whete a caihanic or an aperient is
needed. They are exceedingly mild in their opeta-
Uon, producing neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The efficacy ol these pills is «o well known, and
their use so general, that farther comment is con
sidered unnecessary.

’ The Chronicle and Sentinel is devoted to ‘
Commerce, Politics,and General Intelligence.
Its location in the principal mart of the State,
gives it decided advantages over the papers of any
other part of the State, in presenting the earliest
and most important commercial news. Reports of j
the most important markets in the Union are copied

strictest accuracy for the tri-weekly and weekly
papers, which affords the Merchant, Planter and
all classes of society, the earliest and most impor
tant commercial intelligence.
In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren
cy, based upon specie—the re-charter of a National
Bank—the principles of State Rights—economy
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis
tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Genets 1 Government.
In miscellany and general intelligence, great ’
care is taken to render the paper both valuable and j
interesting to ail classes of society. j
The proprietors will, as soon as their circulation
is sufficiently enlarged, (which they hope will be *
in the course of t c present year,) increase the size |

HE RMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in

acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina

many other extracts and essences is almost as eva

they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in .efinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
