The following is the language of the com mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by tiie committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearother trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of j the profession, as the best known means of me- 1 cbanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” Tiie foLowing is from the Southern Medical and Southern Journal, published in our own city. ; “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best yet invented to effect the object.” Persons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves. The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by M. The principles on w hich it acts are simple and plain. It is an a milted fact that ibis complaint, whether called Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim arily from the stomach —those who think they have the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th a sys tem lias become vitiated or debilitated, through the stomach, and that only through the same channel must they expects restoration of jhe natural and healthy functions ol the system. July 29. 839. ts MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES raHIESE medicines are indebted for their name to lh< ir manifest and sensible action in puri lying the spring and channels at life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun dred certified cases which has been made public, and in almost every species ot disease to which the human frame is liable, the happy effects of MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND FHENIX BIT TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac- Inowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who were previously unacquainted with the beau'ifully philosophical principles upon which they are compounded, and upon which they ejirsequently act. The LI I E MEDICINES recommend themselves in diseases ol every form and description. Their first operation is to loosen from the coals ot the stomach and bowels, the various imparities and crudities eon- tamiy settling around them ; and to remove the hardened faeces which collect convolustons of the smallest intestines. Other in dicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitu al ccstiveness with »J1 its train of evils, or tit a sud den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This lact is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex amine the human bow-els after death ; and hence the prejudice of those well informed men against quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her- Jaded to the public bv ignorant pt rsons. 'J he se cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse tho kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, which takes its red color Irom the agency of the liver and the lungs before it passes into the hea t, being thus purified by them and nourished by food coming from a clean stom ach, courses freely through the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts tiie banner ot health in the blooming cheek. Moffat s Vegetable Lite Medicines have been thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation oi the Heart, Lossoi Appetite, lleart-buraand Head ache, Restlessness,- 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor and Melancholy, Costiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Consump tion, Scurvy, Ulcers, Inveterate Bores, Scorbutic Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common Colds and influenza and various other complaints which afflict the hunta - frame. In fever and ague, particularly, tho Life Medicines have been mostemmently successful; so much so that in the Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni versally prescribe them. All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly according to the directions. It is not by a news paper notice, or any ihirg that he himself may say i.i their favor, that ho hopes to gain credit. It is alone by the resuh of a fair trial. Thus, all nostrums adver tised for barrenness or the cure of impotency, but Dr. Magnin’s, are mere catchpenny humbugs, which would never have been thought of out for the appearance and great celebrity of the LUCINA CORDIAL As no counterfeit of the name is at present in circulation, it may in general be a suffi cient caution for the purchaser lo ask forthe Lucina Cordial, but as further assurance, it would he as well to note tuat its nam , Lucina Cordial, or Elixir of Lcve, is stamped in the glass of each bottle—the combined arms of France and the United States are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis is printed on the accompanying directions, and beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in the stores ol those who have the genuine article for sale.
