Thougp «we shall refrain from an expression of our opinion, either of the soundness or unsoundness of Dy. ooelick’s new doctrine, we are happy to say r that we deem his Sanative too valuable not to bt; generally known—for what our eyes behold and our ears hear, we must believe. I We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offon Goelick first came before the German, public, as the pretended discoverer of a new doc‘r?ne and a new medicine, we held him in the highest con tempt, believing and openly pronouncii g him to be a base impostor ;« d the prince of quacks. But, on hearing so much said about the Sanative, it and for it, we were induced, from motives ol curi •fity merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues upon a number of our most hopeless potionts; and we now deem it our hounden duty (el on at the expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge its efficacy in curing not only consu r.ption, but other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore * believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the { discoverer of this medicine was at once s wallowed up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected results; and, as amends for our abuse ol him, we do frankly confess to the world, that =we believe him a philanthropist, who docs honor tt the proles sicu, and to our country, which gave him birth. This slate ol the public mind would seem to forbid any person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.— Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent ns from making known real discoveries, which we are con fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter consideration has prompted ihe author of thesehit ters to make them known. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tc be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they- are all that they profess to be, and will do for otheis what they have done for such as mav have used them ; as Jiis is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the other kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it asceitaineJ that .ney coiuauieu alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day-. July 29. 839. t s MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES fiAHESE medicines are indebted for their name A to tht ir manifest and sensible action in puri fying the spring and channels ol life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun dred certified cases which has been made public, and in almost every species of disease to which the human frame is liable, the happy effects of MOFFAT’S LIFE FILLS AND PHENIX BIT TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac- Jnowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who were previously unacquainted with the beaufiiully philosophical principles upon which they are compounded, and upon which they eonsequently act. The LIFE MEDICINES rcccniimend themselves in diseases ot every form and description. Their first operation is to loosen from the coats of the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities eon.-tantly settling around them ; and to remove the hardened faeces which collect i comolusions of the smallest intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitu alcostiveness with all its train ofevils. or in a sud den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex amine the human bowels after deaili ; and hence the prejudice of those well informed men against quack meidomes—or medicines prepared and her- Jaded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. 'J he se cond effect ot the Life Medicines is to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder, and bv this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of w hich entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. Ihe blood, which takes its red color from the agency of the liver and the lungs before it passes into the heart, being thus purified by them and nourished by food coming from a clean stom ach, courses freely thiough the veins, renews every part ol the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of the Heart, Lossot Appetite, Heart-buraand Head ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Consump tion, Scurvj, Ulcers, Inveterate Sores, Scorbutic Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common f olds and influenza and varioits other compiainis which afflict the human frame. In fever and ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been mustemineritly successful; so much so that in the Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni ( versally prescribe them. All lhat Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is I to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly 1 according to the directions. It is not by a news paper nolice, or any thing that he himself may say j in their favor, that ho hopes to gam credit. It is alone by the result of a fair trial.
