Vv’e, the undersigned, practitioners ol medicine In Germany', are weil aware that, by our course, > we may forfeit the friendship of some of tin iacui ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un influenced bv selfish motives, ihough we snail refrain from an expression ol our opinion, citnei of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. uuelick s neve doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem his Sanative too valuable not to be generally known —for what ouv eyes behold and our ears hear, we must believe. We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Lours Ollen Gee lick first came before the German public, as the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a new medicine, we held him in the highest con tempt, believing and openly' pronouncing him to be a base impostor :u d the prince ol quacks. Put, on hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it | and for it, we were induced, from motives ol cuii- i osiiy merely, to make trial oi its reputed virtues | upon a number of our most hopeless patient-.; and , we now deem it our bounden duty' (even at the | expense of self-interest) publicly' to acknowledge j its efficacy in curing not only' consumption, out j other fearful maladies, which vve have heretofore j believed to be incurable. Gur contempt ior the } discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed | up in our utter astonishment at those unexpected | results; and, as amends lor our abuse ol him, we { do frankly confess to the world, that vve believe 1 him a philanthropist, who docs honor to the proses- I sicn, and to our eountiy, which gave him birth. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and does not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made known to the faculty, or any one else that may wish to know, by r any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked lor, some one in almost the extreme Noith has advertised a Tomato Pill, purpoiting U be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuiu than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of "Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they I rofess to be, and will do for othets what they have done for such as mav have used them; as Jiis is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of tire hapatine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the • system in much better condition than the other kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and ” how they then wished for a substitute. It has ion ir been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it asccrtaine J that .ney contained alterative anddiu , retie properties. The Faculty embrace aud use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, , they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the ’ day. If you w ish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of whicn a supply, we learn, will soon be in lus city. We all know something aoout tnis. ur.c ? The LII E .MEDICINES recommend themselves in diseases ol every form and description. Their | first operation is to loosen from the coals ol the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudnies eon tantly settling around them ; aim to remove the hardened fajees which collect cunvoiusions of the smallest intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce liabitu al cos’.iver.tss with 11 its train of evils, or in a sud den diarrhoea, with its eminent iangers. This tact is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex amine the human bowels after death; and hence the prejudice of those weil informed men against quack me • ionics—or medicines prepared and hcr ladcd to the publie bv ignorant pi rsons. Ihe se cond effect ot the Life Medicines is to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, which lakes its red color from the agency of the liver aud the lungs before il passes into the hea t, being thus purified by them j and nourished hy food coming from a clean stom ach, courses freely th.ough the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek.
