Citizens of North and South Amt tea.
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. )., of Germany,
[Europe,: belongs the.imperishahi honor of adding
anew and precious doctrine to th science of medi
cine —a doctrine which, though ve emently opposed
by many of the faculty, (of wide he is a valuable
member,) lie proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —a x trine, upon the
verily of which are suspended th lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly Challenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered |ffate of Vis Vita:
(or Life Principle) of the human body: (£/> often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of the- Lungs 4T0 —and
which may be as certainly, thoug ; not so quickly,
cured, as a common coid ora simp i headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine tins j as it imparts an
important lesson to the apparent! | healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this i isidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their clayey houses”
even while they imagine themse ves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the p-eat secret in the
a) t of preserving health is to pin c out the disease
when in the blade, and not wait t I the full grown
ear.
This illustrious benefactor of m n is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and’ .e gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his m chless Sanative,
—wh.ose healing hat may justly c rim for it such a
title, since it has so signally tri nphed over our
great common enemy, jff Cons niption, both in
the first and last stages, —a me cine which has
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in th MateriaMedica,
and thereby proved itself the fff < mquerur of Phy

will have abundant cause to bles the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a tedicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glc . ingly pourtray

often become the happy instrumei Is of changing de

We, the undersigned, practitio :rs of medicine

of the soundness or unsoundness If Dr. Goelick’s
new doctrine, we are happy to s: r that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not a be generally

hear, we must believe.
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offon
Goelick first came before the G rman public, as
the pretended discoverer of a ne’ doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in he highest con
tempt, believing and openly' prom |incing him to be
a base impostor at d the prince of hacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the S: r alive, against it
and lor it, we were induced, from [actives of curi

upon a number of our most hopel ps patients; and
vve now deem it our bounden d jty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publitffi Ho acknowledge
its elhcacy in curing not only ' jnsumption, but
other fearful maladies, which wt piave heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our pntempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was a once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at ;tese unexpected
results; and, as amends for our nuse of him, we
do frankly confess to the world, hat we believe
him a philanthropist, who does ho hr to the profes

A Late and “Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS tnere is nothing mo*’ cMculaled to
disgust the public eye than tha innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready 10 ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state
ot the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of tha public.—
8tt!l, motives of delicacy should not prevent us (rora
making known real discoveries, which we are con

friends, have given ihc-in a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his rercllection- was gone. By using these hitters
he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by 1 lie use ol these hitters. This has been the case
with many ol his Iri nds. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth tiiis advertisement, addresses those w ho know

Kadical Cure of ilevniaor Rupture, byl)v.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
subscriber has opened an office, al the Drug
B store of Messrs. J, J. Robertson & Co., forths
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearolher
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Personsfrora a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi*

The instruments are of al: sizes, and applicable
to every variety 01 reducible rupture.

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF

for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx

North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting u
be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuiu

say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg

profess to be, and will do for otheis what they

doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, 01 active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca

ANTI-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
r|' HIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30) yeats, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably' acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess wffiich followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveves, from the celebrated
Indian Chief VVabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a,solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with,! may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by r Wabenoshe, to
M. Chcveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.
TRANSLATION,
“I, Wabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowa and

which my children have had sent among them as

This Medicine,! vvarmit by'this publication,un
der a penalty of §5,000, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata
ble in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue
is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduclton of this loathsome malady—and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain Hie
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radicalcure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree •
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions are well follow

returned.

act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ol every form and description. Their
first ot*eration is to loosen from the coats ot the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon tantly settling around them ; am. to
remove the hardened faeces which collect
convolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al cosliveness with r 11 its train of evils, or 111 a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This (act
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and heme

quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her-
Jaded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. 'i be se
cond effect of the Lile Medicines is to cleanse thu
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity ofthe urinary
organs. Ihe blood, which takes its rod color Irma '
the agency ol tlie liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heat, bedug thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom

banner ol health in the blooming check.

which afflict the humar frame. In fever and

All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly

combined arms ol France and the United States
are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis
is printed on the accompanying directions, and
beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in
the stores of those who have the genuine article
for sale.
The celebrity of the Lueina Cordial being such
as it is, it is scarcely necessary to add that it is the
only etficient remedy for barrenness, and the resto
ration of decayed virile powers evei known; and
that in the cure of Fluor Albus, Gleet, obstructed,
difficult or painful Menstruation, the incontinence
ol the urine, or the involuntary discharge thereof,
its superiority over every other medicine is not on
ly decided, but unquestionable. For sale by
