In Germany, are well aware {that, by our-course,
we may forfeit the friendsbiplof some of the facul

refrain from an expression our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsourdu'ss of Dr. Goelick s
new doctrine we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable iat to be generally
known —for what our eyes :|ehold and our ears
hear, we must believe. j
We hereby sta e, that wfien Dr. Louis Often
Goelick first came before ih‘ German public, as
the pretended discoverer of ajnew doctrine and a
new medicine, we held li.mjin tiie highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base’impostor d the pi ne ’of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about ithv Sanative, against it
and for it, we were induced;, Lorn motives of cuu

upon a number of our most hrtpeless patients; and
we now deem it our boondeif duty (even at the
expense ot* seli-iiitcrest) p*ib|icly to acknow
its eiticacy in curing not an)y consumption, but j
other fearful maladies, which*we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. o(ir contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine wjs at once sw allowed

do frankly confess to the woi Id, that we. believe

The recent adoption of thi medicine into some

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
SITT'EHS
A Late and \ aluable Discovery.
I PERHAPS tnere is nothing mor° calculated to
disgust tne public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready 10 ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
co 1 , eries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are con
fidsnt will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted the author of these bit
ter? to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his w ife, and many
frit mis, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, lhat even j
his recollection was gone. By using these hitters j
lie has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use ot these hitters. This has been the case
with many of lus fri* nds. Mr. Cosby in sending
for h this advertisement, addresses those who know
him. He has been for many years a resident of
Augusta, at which place he can at any lime bs
cor suited about the bitters. They are good in all
cases ofdiseases of the digestive organs, the symp
toms of which are indigestion, pain or oppression
in Ihe stomach from food, lossut appetite, fiatuicn- I
tv, heart burn, giddiness in the head, pain in the ]
side, shortness of breath, lassitude, geneial weak
ness, distu; bed sleep, &c The composition is en
tirely Botanical, an i has proved efficacious when :
many celebrated medicines had failed, in support
of which ho refers them to Freeman W. Lacy, she
riff >1 Richmond count'’, and William T. Thomp
son. ediiorol the Au usta Mirror, and he might re
fer j-ou to many others, but deems it unnecessary
as he is willing to place it on its own merits. All
he asks is lor tnose who are afflicted with tne dys
pepsia to give it n trial.
They can be nad at T. H. Plant’s book-store..

Radical Cure ol lleruiaor Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
r|M!E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
j store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson It Co., for tbs
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
usliy celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
ho could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
aflec lion, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are iu a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Rad cal Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wcarothec
trusses; trials that xvould be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the p rofession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol.owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in cur own city.
“ Ai.ll must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and tit a t Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Personsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who arc laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly up.m presenting a certificate.from someresponsi*
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every Variety 01 reducible rupture.

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North lias advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tc
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuru
than for one to oiler meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising lire Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honot pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for othets what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Bed Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found 10 keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, ami
how they then wished for a substitute, it has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertain*; j that .aey couiameu alterative and diu
retic properties. Ihe Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, =a-o anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill of which a supply, we learn, will soon heir,

ANTi-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
'PHIS incomparalvle and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of.a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su cess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveves, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenotiie, or Great Moon, whilst
; he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
; siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
i Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
1 success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting wath copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to Hie Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
j Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
| free to use it in their respective tribes, which
j places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
| ble powers
Below r is a copy of the translation ac near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed iu preparing the article for im
mediate use.

is to subdue every vestige of indamation, and then

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

THE LUCINA CORDIAL—BEWARE

r |MIE unprecedented popularity of this benefi

under various names, and purporting to produce the
same effect; hut which, in reality, produce no other
effect than lhat of swindling the public; and to
give a yet more plausible appearance of the r cu

trums have been in use in England and elsew here
lor a number of years; whereas, until the illustrious
Dr. Magnin made his wonderful discovery, no cure
lor barret.ness bad been ever thought tis, or at least

restoration of the decayed virile powers were found
to be of but little avail. Thus, ail nostrums adver

Dr. Magtiin’s, are mere catchpenny humbugs,
which would never have been thought of out tor
the appearance and great celebrity of the LUCINA
CORDIAL As no counterfeit of the name is at
present in circulation, it may in general be a suffi
cient caution lor th'J purchaser to ask for the Lucina
Cordial, but as further assurat.ee, it would be as
well to note Mat its nant , Lucina Cordial, or Elixir

are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis
is printed on the accompanying directions, and
beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in
