The amount of Foreign Flxchanges bought for I
the Liver; 00l packet of to-day, the England, Capt. !
Waite, was very trifling—there was no change m
rates. Domestic Exchanges are very active a Targe j
business in them transacted.
C otton remains dull —no changes were made on
Saturday worth reporting. The receipts of Flour
arc light and theie is a steady demand from the
eastward consequently holders are lirra and Fri
day’s prices are well supported.
Correspondence of the N. Y. Courier 4- Enquirer .
Liverpool, September 30.
Since the date of our last circular, J9th instant, 1
rather a large business lias been done in our Cotton
market, particularly on the 21st and 22d instant,
when an 1 npnmment of £ (a) 4a lb was rea.ised
on all qualities below fair, and of £d lb. on the
better qualities. For a week past however, the ;
demand lias been less active, and scarcely sufficient I
to sustain the above advance, and the accounts of j
yesterday’s Manchester market being flat, ours lias i
dosed heavily to-day with rather a tendency down- i
wards. Ihe sales lor the week ending 25tn inst., I
were 26,640 bales, of which 9oio were Upland, at
fancy lots at (a)
at sjj (a) 6a, and 350 sea Island at fi 23d ja lb
about 1 0,500 of it taken on speculation. For tire
lour subsequent days, up to this evening, the busi
ness is estimated at about 19000 bales, of which
5000 fj) GOOo are to speculators. The operations
of speculators are supposed to have been mainly
influenced by the accounts from the United States
ofthe backwardness of the coming crop, and the
prevalence in some districts of unfavorable wea
ther lor it. The import into Liverpool since the
Ist January is 1,251,000 bales, against 925,000 in
the hist nine months of last season —in the supplv
Lorn the United States the increase is 314,0ub
bales. The stock in tiiis port is estimated at 489-
000 bales against 4u9,000 at the same period last
season. The stock of American is about 421,000
bales, or aoout 30,000 more than it then was.
The continued uneasiness with regard to the
Egyptian question, and the adverse state of the
Foreign FJxchanges, still operate unfavorably on
the money market, and Is some check to business
generally. ♦
Liverpool, October 3.
Since the above the demand for Cotton has been
moderate and without any speculative opera ions,
hut the market though languid, remains steady.
The sales for the week ended last evening, amoun
ted to 27,063 bales, of which 5260 were Upland, at
5$ (a) 6A ; 9920 Orleans at s®B; 7750 Alabama
and Mobile at sjj (a 1 and 2io Sea Island at 12^
(a) 224 d ib.
Liverpool, October 2.
The market upon the whole has had a quiet
appearance this week, though the busines transac
ted to a lair extent ; the accounts from the inanu
lacturing districts having been far from encourag
ing, whilst the leai s entertained by many of serious
injury haying been sustained by toe growing crop
ot the I nited States, have in a great measure been
dispelled by the recent reports from thence, the
speculative feeling that was so general in the be
ginning of the week, has in consequence died
away; prices of ail descriptions have, however,
been fully maintained, holders having in no in
stances shown a disposition to accept of lower
rates. The imports 01 the week have been 33,1z6
bags. And the sales for the same period including
BGUU American and 300 Surat taken on specula
tion, and 100 American for export, amount to
27,900 bags.
Havre, September 29.
Colton was in p;etty good demand dining the
greater pan of the week, and middling as well as
good qualities from the United States were If. to
11. 50 dearer than the preceding week, but those
of 7of. to 85f. were more in request. Our sales
from the 19th to the 25th inst. amounted to 8264
bales, as follows: 3441 bales very good to good and
line ord. Louisiana at 66 to 95f. ; 1441 do. 67 to
871.; 11S8 do. to ord. to good ord. Georgia at 66 to
86L; 2027 ord. to good ord. Florida at to SOf.,
and 167 packages ord. to good ord. St. Domingo at
77M. against which were fresh imported 3705
bales, leaving a stock of about 123 to 124,000
baies.
Havre, September 29.
The Cotton market remained in nearly same
position as before. The sales consisted of 236
bales Georgia at to 82; S9O Louisiana at 67f.
to 80; 35u Mobile at 72M. to 87; 264 FTorida at
80 to 82f. and 20 bales Tinncvilley at 95.
