Q 33 3 Q [Translated from the German,] LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE, of Germany , The Greatest of Human Benefactors Citizens of North and South America, To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany, r Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding anew and preciou-. doctrine to the science ofmedi cine — a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed dv many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth as any doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, u pon the verity of which are suspended the lives ol millions of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al ways occasioned by a disordered state oi \ is \ ita; ( 0r Life Principle) of the human body: pollen secretly lurking in the system lor years belore here is tne least complaint of the Lungs JfJj —and which may be as certainly, though not so quickly, cured as a common co,d oi a simple headache. An invaluably precion- doctrine this, as it imparts an important lesson to the apparently healthy of both sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may be an unobserved inmate of their ‘ clayey houses” even while they imagine themselves secure trom its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease wtien in the blade, and not wait till the full grown ear. . This illustrious benefactor oi man is also entitled to you i unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude ol a world, for tne invention of his matchless Sanative, —whose healing hat may justly claim for it such a title, since it has so signally triumphed over our great common enemy, Consumption, both in the first and last stages,—a medicine which has thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the Materia Medica, and thereby proved itself the £j- Conqueror oj Phy tic ians rz —a medicine, 10, which all mankind will have abundant cause to bless the benencent hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray ed even by sirae of our clergy, in tneir pastoral visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they often become the happy instrumentsot changing de sponding into hope, sickness into hea'th, and sad of friends into joylulness 4 Q Q* GOELICKE's MATCHLESS SANATIVE , A medicine of more value to man than the vast mines of Austria, or even the united treasures ol our giooe,—a medicine, which is obtained equally from the vegatable, animal and mineral Kingdoms, and thus possesses a threefold power,-a medicine, which, tliougn designed a> a remedy ior consump tion solely- is possessed of a mysterious influence over many diseases of the human system,—a medi cine which begins to be valued by physicians, who are daily witnessing its astonishing cures ol many whom they had lesigned to tae grasp of the Insa- DOSE of the Sanative, for adults, one diop; for children, a half-drop; and for infants, a quarter drop; the directions explaining the mannei of ta king a half or a quarter diop. . We the undersigned, practitioners of medicine in Germany, are well aware that, by our course, we may forfeit the friendship ot some of the lacul tv but not of its benevolent members, who are un influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall refrain fiom an expression of our opinion, either of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. (melick s new doctrine we are happy to say that vve deem his Sanative too valuable not to be generally known—for what our eyes behold and our ears hear, we must believe. . We nereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Otlon Goelick first came before the German public, as the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a new medicine, we held him in the highest con tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be a base impostor . d the prince of quacks. But on hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it nd for it, we were induced, from motives of cau- SD merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and we now deem it our bounden duty (even at the expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge its efficacy in curing not only consumption, out j other fearful maladies, which vve have heretofore j believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected results; and. as amends for our abuse ot him, vve do frankly confess to the world, that we believe him a philanthropist, who does honor to tae profes sitn, and to our country, which gave him biith. The recent adoption of this medicine into some o our European hospitals, IS a sufficient guaranty that it performs all promises. It needed not out estimony, for wherever it is used it is its own best HERMAN ET.VIULLER, a. n. WALTER VAN GAULT, m. d. ADOLPHUS WEKNJfiB, m. d.
