*: frospectus of a New Work be entitled
GEORGIA ILLLSI|iATED,
T| N a series of original pictures* ;>n steel, with let
■ ier press descriptions. The*|:lan of publishing
in successive numbers pictorial orks, illustrative
of the scenery of countries, has flung been a popu
lar one in Europe, and is rapidl j gaining favor in
our own country. *
The proposition to issue such | work, devoted to
the scenery of Georgia, although novel, will find
universal favor, and be regarded .-y\ it is by the Edit
or, a plan at once felicitous am* feasible. There
is much scenery in our btite, thui is not surpassed
in beauty and sublimity, by thati/f any other Male
in the Union. The abound in scenes,
which need only be known to command the admi
ration of all who love the beauties of nature. —
Much of the scenery of the NoiTjris inferior to our
own, but is yet visited by thousa v«s simply because
it has been written sung and “ lionized by au
thors and travellers until its b >iaty has become
universally known and appreciat -;!. It is desirable
that attention should be directed f v our own resour
ces of picturesque in natural sc; ’aery, and when
this is done, our own and Northern tourists will
speedily render our beautiful vitics as immortal as
our language. |j
The South is charged with gevjral indifference
to the progress of Literature aifs Fine Arts ; and
probably the strongest foundation for the charge is
found in tier inaction in enterprise calculated to fos
ter these objects. The publication of tlie propos
ed work will it is believed, be In elfective blow
at the foundation, a step towards'the establishment
of our literary reputation, to whi|h end much hon
orable effort is now directed. t
A third consideration and the*last which will
now be urged, is the intrinsic vajrue of such publi
cation as “ Georgia Illustrate) j, ” Jtwillembo
dy the representations of the beafliful and sublime
in our State scenery, and afford all, at a trifling
expense, exact pictures of our nt;;untains, vallies,
cataracts, public buildings, &c., vsiAch they may or
may not otherwise behold, but wWC;h, in either case,
would afford peculiar pleasure. I
The proposed work will be oicuted in a style
superior to any Similar pictorial |irork in the coun
try. The plates will be execute^!- on steel, by em
inent engravers, from original drawing, made ex
pressly for the purpose, by Mr. : Addi-on Rich
ards, of Augusta. The will be accora
companied with letter press descriptions, prepared
for the work, and in this deparjnient the editor
will secure, as far as possible, th* assistance and
co-operation of our best writers. In short, no pains
will be spared to make thd workju perfect gem of
the kind, to the end that it may jaeet a welcome
reception not only at home but a|.o abroad.

We have now on hai d a large stock of the raw

any manufactured at the North or elsewhere, and
we challenge comparison.
We also manufacture to order any kind of
AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS. We are

HEADACHE, SK K OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s

invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts arc simple and plain. It is
an a milled tact Dial this complaint, whether called
