Daniel Hook, Mayor of the city of Augusta, do
hereby set apart Thursday, the thirty-fust day of
this month, a« a day of Public Thanksgiving to
Almighty God for again blessing our city with its
accustomed goon health, and do also earnestly re
commend alj citizens to suspend their usual busi
ness and assemble in their respective places of
1 worship, to render unto Him their united tribute of
tharks for this great blessing, and to supplicate a
continuance of Divine favor for our Gitv and

peiienre and approved manner of teaching by Mr.
M , united to his industry and indefatigable perse
verance as a teacher, we hope to share a libeial
patronage. The Academy occupies a very healthy
and pleasant siuation.

Applicants for admission to the Freshman class
will be examined critically as to their knowledge
ot tne Latin. Greek, and English Grammars (pros
ody included), aBo upon the Anabasis of Xeno
phon, as contained in the first volume of the Col
lectanea Graeca Majora—or any equiv alent selec
tion in tiie same volume; also upon PLcy’s Lit
ters— or Sallust—or Livy. Above all, they will
be expected to evince great readiness in Arith
metic.

tion to the above, the app icant should have read
and completed the first volume of the Majora, and
the first book of the Odyssy, or their equivalents.
The odes of Horace, with attention to prosody ;
